I can’t see them getting anything more than £5m upfront for Miller given he can walk for compensation in January. These teams targeting him largely see him going to feeder clubs or are feeder clubs for bigger ones so I doubt many would be against waiting to January.

Don’t get me wrong think he will move this summer but I think the initial deal will be £5m-ish with some add ons.

I would guess that you won’t be not far away with that estimate.

I think we might see a bid from him from us not too long after the cup final. I think Reo will leave this summer and I think Brendan likes Miller and he will want to make the deal happen and the board owe him after McGinn.

Knowing Celtic, it will be low and then our hand will be forced by a higher bid from another team. I just hope this time we don’t * about in matching the bid.

    This needs done.

People are forgetting the wealth of experience this KID has.

Hes 18 years of age and has more experience and leadership under his belt than anyone else in his age bracket, in i dare say, all of europe.

Is he pricey for his age? Of course.

But how much of that is actually to do with inflation.
We paid 4.5m for Broony in 2007, with the pound losing 44% of it value since then, thats around 8 million today, and Broony was 4 years older at the time with about the same level of experience, probably less.

This is a no brainer. He's a naturual candidate for a future captain, and if he performs to level many expect him to we'd be looking at a fair return on that investment down the line.

Offer them the 9m euros they want and get it done.

Or we're gonna be looking at him pulling on a Chelsea shirt in 2 years time and saying we lost another one.

I'm not yet seeing the glaringly obvious talent that others see to justify £8M.
Seems more like a Lewis Ferguson type who's done well enough but still wouldn't (even today) be good enough for Celtic despite doing relatively well at Bologna.

But then again, I thought McGinn was overrated at Hibs so * do I know!

Lewis Ferguson is definitely good enough for us right now.

Think that Lewis Ferguson point might be the worst take I’ve ever heard. Captained Bologna to a cup win this year. Hes better than every midfielder we have.

He’ll no doubt end up in England for £40-50 mil eventually when Bologna decide to cash in.

the point being in relation to Miller though…. We don’t know how far the potential of players will go. But we can’t just continue to miss out on top Scottish talent because they’re not the finished article yet. £8 million is expensive for our own league but * it. Put some money back into our own division instead of not even blinking at paying millions for your nawrocki, lagerbielke, etc.

    I don't think they'll get 8m outright either.

As someone said above, too, we paid 4.4m for Brown 18 years ago. Times have moved on, Motherwell are well within their rights to ask for that. Very least £6m.

Agreed! We can go back further than that £6 million for Sutton 25 years ago £6 million for Lennon and 6 for hartson in 2001. £8 million is nothing these days although those players were established quality.

I didn't rate Ferguson at Aberdeen, and he wasn't someone I seen any of us pushing for. I think the huns missing out on him was a big miss as he'd likely have started for then right away.

He'd easily start for us now though, looks 100 times better than he did at Aberdeen.

Sorry, but that is absolute nonsense.
Good luck to the lad he's done well but only gets on for Scotland when the legendary Kenny McLean is tired!
There is no way on earth I'd even swap him for Hattate, Engels or McGregor never mind spend big money to drop one of those for him, even with the midfield being most obvious area to improve.

But regardless of Ferguson, we should now be in the £10-£15M market for automatic first teamers - we have the same player/wages model from 2003 FFS - although now that's gradually shifting with Engels on fees, wages not so much.

I personally don't think Miller is the right guy to be the key player in midfield, same as I thought with Turnbull but I also thought the same with McGinn.
If Brendan thinks he is the right man at the right time, for the right fee - then bring him home.
If not, move onto other targets.

Doubt they’ll get 9m for him but this is one I’d be all over. Guy is clearly an unbelievable talent and potentially could be McGregors long term successor. I mentioned it the other night but we should take a leaf out of psg’s book when it comes to domestic talent. Clearly they have a much, much more talented group of players to choose from, and far greater finances but when the player is right in front of our nose and we obviously have the cash to make it happen we should be, rather than taking speculative punts on foreign players.

We’d pay best part of £5m quid for guys like Nawrocki and consider it excellent business but turn our nose up at someone like Lennon miller who’ll go abroad and be back in England soon enough as a £50m player, don’t get it.

And that’s his fault how? He clearly should be playing but the guy can’t help it if the manager is a stubborn dinosaur who’d rather play his favourites regardless of how * they are. He also got a bad injury at a terrible time, he’d 100% been in the team at the Euros otherwise.

Tbh when he left Aberdeen I genuinely didn’t think he’d do as well as he has done, and didn’t feel like we missed the boat but he’s been unbelievable since going there and will end up at a top team, either in England or in Italy.

We should be all over this even at 6 million we are getting a complete midfielder who at 18 years old is one of the best prospects at his age in world football! And did I mention he has captained Motherwell senior team as a teen that shows he is a natural leader aswell. Lastly I'm all in for paying good money to a fellow Scottish team as it will make it more interesting in terms of our league if these smaller teams have better financial stability.

£6m, loan them McArdle and a 15% sell on fee.

We get a good player, they get another prospect to work with that fills the space, but also have money to then invest further in their squad.

He is young, has some grit and would instantly make our squad a better one. No brainer imo. He would start for us very soon if signed.

Lewis Ferguson is definitely good enough for us, and was when he was at Aberdeen. Let's be honest, people sneered at him because his family are a shower of *. I was more afraid he'd join Rangers as he would have been fantastic for them, fortunately the fans didn't want him (but wanted Barron).

I don't think they'll get £8m, and I don't think they believe they will get it either, just a starting point for negotiations. Think they get £5-6m plus a good sell on.

A discussion on Clarke picking players on form as opposed to favouritism is one I won’t have.

you’re right, I wouldn’t swap those players either for Ferguson but that doesn’t mean Ferguson isn’t better than them. Both Engels and Hatate could be sold this year for upwards of £35-40 mil total. Who would you want us to replace those two with if you had a choice?

don’t agree on having to spend £10-15 mil to replace players…. If we only did that we would never have bought O’reilly for £1.5 mil? Maeda for £3.5 mil. Correct scouting is what we need to do.

you’re right about turnbull and potentially mcginn at the time but both those two right there show you can never be sure what will happen to a player. Miller is a huge prospect I’m not sure we can risk missing out on bud
