    Except it isn’t really.

He’s joined a money league to pad his stats, that’s an asterisk against anyone.

Some of the players in that league are better than teams in the French league. I don’t disagree it’s a money move….but it still is a professional top division. So saying the goals don’t count is exactly the kinda talk I’ve seen online any time there’s posts about Larsson! I’d definitely take about 50 players in that league to strengthen ours :84::85:

It’s exactly what fans of other leagues than ours do say.

Who the * are Central Dealmakers? He’ll leave Saudi I think. A lot who went there are away now, he was there for yes the money but he wanted to be the main man that a new super league was built around. And he’s scored but his teams failed, crowds dwindling, getting stick, increasingly throwing tantrums and huffs on the pitch.

He’ll * off, I don’t think the money that will keep him there the Saudi’s will think worth it. His stardom isn’t helping their league now, it’s more a sideshow and a joke

912 first team top division and country career goals not including friendlies
    Not bad.
101 ahead of Messi and 257 ahead of Lewandowski and 362 ahead of our very own Jimmy McGrory.
Equivalent to 39.65 goals a season

Edit: Jimmy McGrory had 34.37 goals a season.
King Henrik had 30 goals a season

Would love to see him back at sporting now gyokeres is leaving. Goes against their recent transfer system but that young Dane they have ‘Harder’ looks a prospect. Him and Ronaldo together alternating would help to replacing the 60 goals gyokeres scored this year haha!

My brother was at his last game for Sporting - was on the way back from Seville - ended up talking to a few Sporting fans - they weren't too bothered by him at all. Things might have changed but not sure him going back there is like Jota going back to Benfica. He's always just been a mercenary.

Ah - thought you were talking about Ronaldo :56:

Edit: actually you are. It was Ronaldo's last game at Sporting I was talking about

Ohhh, I can’t imagine the sporting fans seeing him that way surely! He’s portugals greatest player and most loved ever. The shirt sales for the club alone would pay his wages back no doubt.

It’ll be like us won’t it, there’ll be some fans who don’t want players who’ve left back and some that always will.

not sure he’s a mercenary though, been pretty loyal to each club he’s been at time wise, just sporting who sold him when they had chance to make good money. I saw an interview with wenger recently that was saying so many clubs across Europe tried to get him to sign before he even signed pro with sporting, Arsenal being one of them.

Let’s be honest - he’s incredible. He may not be likeable, but people who chase perfection with an obsessive like zeal rarely are. It’s a difficult thing to associate with, because most people don’t attempt it, never mind achieve it.

Across sports, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone better in terms of holding them up as a role model for a young athlete, in terms of how they’ve pursued excellence, then care of their body, and adapted their game over time.

Messi is still the GOAT, but Ronaldo is outrageous too. I actually think he’s become almost underrated in a sense that the younger generation view him as just a goal scorer.

He only played 25 games for the first team before his move to Man Utd after being developed by the club. So probably only a single season. Think that's likely the reason. I think they had the impression he pushed to leave too, although as all this is second hand maybe not the best witness.

This was at the point he left so they might view him differently now.

If Ronaldo had played 1 game for us and wanted to come back at 50 I’d pick him up personally from Timbuktu  although sporting have definitely had much better players than us pass through the club recently hahah so I’m sure their fans standards are a little higher for who they want back in that case

What Messi has achieved in football can’t be achieved by other footballers ever as no one will be as gifted as him again.

what Ronaldo has achieved I think can be ….but never will be. As we’ve seen many players that have been as talented as him early on in their careers never fulfil their potentials. His drive and desire is incomparable and how he’s basically created the physical monster he’s become from scratch too, most players reach the top and coast. Hes tried to do better every season for 22 seasons.

Even after becoming as rich as he is too. He could have gone to Saudi and just taken the money and wound down into retirement (Neymar)

For me the GOAT debate is nearly impossible. I find both equally as good and a big thing Ronaldo has is he have been a monster in about every league except Bundesliga.
