His club-grown status makes him the ideal 3rd choice keeper.

    * be third choice next season, but I suspect we see him as second choice after that for the foreseeable.

Thought he had a few seasons at Tranmere as first choice? Or was that just covering an injury?

    Celtic
are set to sign Aberdeen goalkeeper Ross Doohan this summer.

It’s understood the 27-year-old, who started his career with the Hoops, has agreed terms for a return when his contract expires at the Dons.

Celtic’s third-choice keeper Scott Bain will be allowed leave this summer in search of first-team football, after spending seven years with the Scottish champions.

For the Champions League, Celtic need to have eight players trained in Scotland, with four of them club-trained. Doohan fits into both categories.

Makes sense, two birds one stone with this one regarding the home grown quota and third choice keeper

Thought he was in his early 20's. Not sure he's a much better 3rd choice than Bain but for all he'll play, it hardly matters.

He was there on loan, then signed with them but left 6 months later. Then 6 months at Forest Green, then Aberdeen back up.

Makes sense as a straight swap for third choice keeper and both are free.

Bain has one more year left on his contract. Doohan is free.

Thanks I thought Bain was out of contract this summer. I wonder if maybe we have had talks with him and have come to an arrangement to cancel that last year and let him leave on a free this summer instead.

I would rather keep Bain TBH. Don't fancy Doohan at all.

At least Bain is a very good influence amongst the squad.

Wasn’t there a rumour about Bain going to Ayr United?

If there’s any truth to that, and he’s keen to have one last run where’s he’s actually playing week to week, maybe we’ve just agreed to terminate his contract a year early as a show of good will?

With how the Doohan chat has being picking up steam, you would be inclined to believe that there’s something going on. I don’t imagine either Bain or Doohan would be kicking up too much fuss, but I can’t see us having 4 first team goalkeepers on the books.

I assume this means we don't rate Oluwayemi.

Speaks volumes for our youth academy and goalkeeping coaches that in 6 years we haven't been able to develop him in to someone capable of sitting in the stands 85% of the season

I think sending him on loan without extending his contract said that already. His previous loans hadn't gone well either. If they had I think his contact would have been extended.

I've said before that a goalkeeper at that age probably wouldn't want to be third choice anyway, they need to go and get experience and would probably want to. If you resign yourself to third choice at such a young age your career will just stagnate and go nowhere.

I suppose being club grown is better than home grown but in the grand scheme of things probably not. It depends if they think Doohan still has room left to improve to be second choice.

It would matter if Schemeichel is not up to scratch for next season, and that's a distinct possibility given he is fast approaching 39, and looks in poor condition.

I think we need another top class goalkeeper, and its not Doohan or Bain

You’re not signing 3 top class goalkeepers. *, even Man City have a * third GK.

    Misread.
I'm not suggesting we sign three top class goalkeepers.
I'm saying if Schemeichel is all washed up, we need a second top class goalkeeper along with Sinisalo.
