Patrick Roberts!

He was really unlucky in his second loan spell with us, getting that injury. Would have been remembered even more fondly by us had that not happened.

 

I respect his faith in his ability to break into the man city team...but after us he was getting loaned to typical boring English sides.

Had so much about him but wasn't to be

 

Roberts has all the natural talent in the world.

Unfortunately his poor attitude/work ethic/mentality/injury record and a series of bizarre loan moves has seriously derailed his career.

It's a shame he hasn't realised his potential but he's not the first and certainly won't be the last.

Absolutely loved him when he was here though. One of my favourite players of that era.

 

Watching Spurs last night and Maddison being injured made me remember laughing about us being linked to him after his loan to Aberdeen, and saying * that, go all out for Paddy Roberts.

And not a single person thought Maddison was an option between the two. Mad that.

 

The biggest de-rail was us playing him against City when we had £7m agreed, he ran riot, and Pep said send him to a better league see how he does.

And then never had the same thing he had here, he has been better for Sunderland with a passionate support and chasing for prizes going up the leagues play offs etc.


He had adoration here, honours to win, he went elsewhere and it was whats the point between 11th or 12th I think he done an interview talking about it. It’s funny that, some guys need that. The comparison was Joe Hart going for trophies at City. To leaving and he just didn’t like football.

We got him for another year on loan the season after he played against them

 

Yes on loan, not the permanent deal we that we had in place. Then he got loaned to La Liga.

 

Sunderland promotion hero Patrick Roberts is wanted by Derby County.
Winger Roberts may struggle for game time with the Black Cats in the Premier League and can be allowed to leave.
Derby are looking into a deal and would offer Roberts a three year contract. Sunderland will sell at the right price.
Several Championship sides are interested on loans but the Rams could make a cash offer that beats them all.
