Goalkeeper, Ross Doohan has signed a permanent deal with EFL League Two side, Tranmere Rovers after spending last season on loan at the Prenton Park club, playing 34 times.

The 24-year-old joined Celtic in 2015 and also had loan spells at Cumbernauld Colts, Morton, Ayr United, Ross County and Dundee United, on an emergency loan when Ben Siegrist was injured at Tannadice, before going on loan to the Merseyside outfit at the start of last term.

The keeper is one of a group of youngsters who have departed over the course of the close season including Karamoko Dembele, Barry Coffey, Luca Connell, Brody Paterson, Jonathan Afolabi, Ryan Mullen and Frankie Deane.

Everyone at Celtic wishes every success to all of the departing players.

Was never going anywhere at Celtic, so good move for him, hopefully tears it up in that division and moves up a few divisions.
Did he ever play for first team, I dont recall him ever getting a game?

Fair play. Always seemed to be in demand for loans to other teams.

Making it here as a goalie is a mammoth task but he obviously was thought well enough to be here until now.

Best of luck to the lad.

Hope he does well enough and maybe we have a buyback clause, seemed to be rated at all the clubs he went to on loan

    Welcome home

Celtic are poised to re-sign Ross Doohan.

The keeper is out-of-contract at Aberdeen and is set to leave on freedom of contract.

Doohan is now expected to return to the Hoops, where he came through the ranks.

Celtic are expected to let Scott Bain leave and will need another Scottish goalkeeper to fill their European quota.

Doohan is also seen as an academy graduate and would fill in behind Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo.

Doohan left Celtic for Tranmere Rovers in 2023 and then moved on to Forest Green Rovers and Aberdeen in 2023.

The keeper was back-up to Dimitar Mitov but got plenty of top team action when the Bulgarian was out injured for the Pittodrie outfit.

He’s actually decent but strange career move to come and be a third choice keeper and waste your career at that age

Fantastic signing. Would prefer we promoted a youth player instead to be 3rd choice. At least they train with the first team, play for the b team and if they are lucky will be on the bench for a handful of games.

3rd choice for 1 season only. He's coming to be second. It's forward planning. I like it.

    Welcome back kid.

Surely the keepers have a plan laid out for them that they all agree and understand to.

It may not be how I would think it to be, but can't see why Doohan comes back to inevitably play the Bain role when his career is so young still.

So with that said, I assume we are actively looking to see Kasper finish next season and both Sinisalo and Doohan step up to first and second choice keepers.

    Forward planning if so.
    Not usual for us.

He's not nailed down a place anywhere and been a bit of a journeyman. Probably wants to settle down and as third choice will likely earn more than he would in SPL as first choice.

Great move for all in perspective... He should be #2 next year if he grabs it, we get a slot for home grown and club developed... Worst case for us is Kasper out, another keeper in to fight for #1 with Sinisalo... If not needed, we promote another youth and play the long game...

On a free, this is kinda a no-brainer!
