I'm convinced they paid off the last bit of his contract and moved hin out. I'm sure I read it.

That was an insane signing. A four year deal aswell.

He wouldn't believe his own luck landing that number at that stage in his career and injury prone
That was a jobs for the boys for definite. Someone at the club got their palm laced with silver for pushing through that deal.

4 years is what I cannae get ma head round. He might have been worth a 1 year gamble. But not 4.
And he clearly wasn't a Postacoglu signing

    Would have made a difference

Does he still play for us? I thought he was a cracking player with Everton when fit. Injuries killed him.

Think he's gone now. At last.
McCarthy was a cracking player with Hamilton, as was McArthur.
I don't think he ever recovered ( mentally) from the horrific leg break.
Big Celtic man from Castlemilk, but he was done when he came to us.

Think we are making sure he's fit for next season. Wouldn't want to go into the CL qualifiers weakened.

He definitely wasn't an Ange signing. Dermott Desmond's fingerprints are all over that one.

Any talk of a new deal? Could be the grit we need in midfield

One of the wildest signings ever.

He was a cracking player once. Its a shame we never saw him in his prime here with Brown and McGregor. What a trio that would have been.

Sad he never even got acknowledged he left or retired, unless I missed it.
He was a fan and I'm sure he meant well when he signed, not the last that won't work out

Can someone work out how much he earned for every game played? Would be a painful figure I imagine!

If wiki is right and he played 27 times for us roughly £77k per appearance, although I'd expect a lot of those would be sub appearances so the per minute rate would make it look worse. I can't be arsed trying to find how many minutes he played though!

According to transfermarkt, he played 801 min in total across 27 appearances, 0 goals & 1 assist.

Obviously, it's an unfair statistic to just say any footballer is only worth what minutes they play though, otherwise all those hours spent in training and gym etc are not taken into consideration, such as attendance (incl lateness, and not just regarding games and training, but club functions and official public obligations etc), behavioural (not bringing the club into disrepute etc), media (photo shoots, interviews etc), dietary (what to eat and when etc) and any other misc requirements included in their contracts.

It's not McCarthy's fault the Club offered him the terms. The powers that be would have been aware of his previous injury issues etc (it's not like they were a secret) and these contributed to why he was a free agent at the time. No doubt JM would have preferred to have made more of an impression at Celtic in line with what he did down south in the EPL etc, but that's how the cookie crumbled. But so long as he met every requirement of those terms offered by the Club, he was entitled to whatever numeration the contract stipulated.
