I think Jota situation was different. Young and getting a insane amount of money at around 200k/week. No one turn that down.

Sacked Rennes boss Jorge Sampaoli has washed his hands of Kyogo and revealed he never sanctioned the £10million signing from Celtic.

Japanese striker Kyogo made a shock move to the Ligue 1 strugglers in January after three-and-a-half prolific seasons in Glasgow

But the 30-year-old has struggled to make any sort of impact at Roazhon Park, starting just one of his five appearances for the club

Reports in France have already speculated that the former Hoops hero could be offloaded in the summer, having failed to win over new manager Habib Beye.

And Sampaoli - who was axed just days after Kyogo arrived from Parkhead - claims he had no say on Rennes' winter transfer business

The Argentine hit out: "The owner of the club is a very important person in France and, frankly, the club was not up to the expectations that I had compared to the market.

"The sports director decided to make a transfer window that had nothing to do with what we needed.

"We preferred to cut the bridges. I could not represent a team which I had not chosen the players in the winter transfer window

"We even talked about players who have already played with us to change the story more easily, but we were not listened to

Out of favour Kyogo has yet to break his goal duck for Rennes and despite his lack of game time, remains adamant he will be a success with Rennes

He said: "I am gaining confidence. I'm putting my all into the game and showing my skills every day, and my time is increasing little by little.

"I think I'm almost there. I will actively work on it and practice onwards for next season

There was never any indication that Jota was unhappy at Celtic, Kyogo however was reported to be unhappy here for a long time.

We've just been a better team without him I'm afraid. Maeda has been immense and we just don't miss him.

From a footballing point of view it would be a no brainer to bring him back at a reduced fee. Great cover for Maeda next season , he was a genuinely top quality striker for us , went off the boil a bit but would see great depth back to the squad.

Not one I would like us to revisit, he was unhappy here for a while, you could see that in his celebrations in the latter part of his time here. Blessed for the time we had but definitely move on time

Don’t need him with the way we play and Maeda steeling up to the plate with idah. Better spent beefing up the midfield

I’m fairly sure he only went to Rennes so he could get a move in the summer.

In hindsight, while not officially a swap, the deal for Jota was pretty much a swap and now Rennes can sell Kyogo cheap to wherever he wants to go, like the USA for example.

    Everyone wins.

Atlanta actually announced him, I think when we got the option of Jota and they enquired for Kyogo in return he was either going there or nowhere.

I like the way you’ve explained it like them selling him cheap is a bonus for them, they need to not get to I’d say.

But really, Rennes struggling to not be relegated and Jota and Kyogo deemed surplus is * bizarre. Particularly Jota, Kyogo can be special if you have the team behind him controlling the game, getting up the pitch and feeding him.

But Jota can change games on his own. * him half fit in Munich he turned them inside out at times.

Kyogo transfer fate sealed as ex Celtic hero's staggering cost per minute at Rennes revealed

Rennes are poised to cut their losses on ex-Celtic hero Kyogo Furuhashi - after he cost them a whopping £83k for every minute played.

The Japanese striker's £10million January switch to France has been an unmitigated disaster after being frozen out of the team by boss Habib Beye.

The 30-year-old has made just six appearances since his money-spinning transfer five months ago - managing a combined total of 120 minutes.

Kyogo has yet to break his goal duck, too and it's a far cry from his three-and-a-half years in Glasgow, where he plundered almost a century of goals.

Now, reports in France suggest the former Hoops Treble winner is set to be shipped out this summer - costing the Ligue 1 club £83,333 for every minute he has spent on the pitch.
Beye has indicated he only wants to work with players he sees as part of the future at the club.

He said: "The final games of the season will determine my plan for next season.

"We need to work with the players who want to stay at Rennes.

"You have to listen to the opinions of players who want to leave and you don't spend too much time with this type of player."

It wasn't Atlanta that announced him, it was on the MLS website. They put the wrong Japanese player in the story.

I also wouldn't bring him back and I don't think he'd want to return. He wanted to leave for whatever reason, we got the best years out of him and I don't think the way Rodgers plays completely suits his game.

Tbf he is washed up, we had his best days and got good money on him.

Doesn't even come close to fitting into our tactics.

Simply not the player he once was...we need better.

We've been a better team without him I'm afraid. Maeda has stepped up and outperformed kyogo of the last 2 seasons.

We were still performing much better in autumn and back then he was in the team

But in his last form with us Maeda was clearly the better option than him. We didn't need to sell him for that. But exchanging Kyogo for Jota was a great bit of business!

He was outstanding for us for a while but was bang average for longer.
