My old da fell over on Saturday and i've decided to get him a cane of some kind. I was thinking that maybe some of our older members could give me advice or anyone that's bought one for their family.
Recommendations are welcome, shall I get him a Irish Blackthorn? I'm unsure guys, or some kind of pimp cane as a surprise.

Try the local charity shops or one of these mobility shops that are in most of the big shopping centres

Now I'm getting on I've thought of getting a stick, I don't need one but it'd be good to have a legal big stick.

Hazel is good too. It's quite easy to make one yourself to suit him.

It's an official Irish Martial Art

    Traditional Gaelic Stick Fighting.
    A 'Shelaighla'

If you read into 'Faction' fighting in 18th and 19th century Ireland you'll gain some insight into this

Every good Irish family in the 80s (that I knew anyway) had a Shelaighla of some sort as an ornament/weapon if need be in their house. :giggle1:

Antique shops and stalls are a great place to pick up a stick. I've done it myself. Got myself a really cool looking one with a cool handle.
