I've seen some flashes but if someone gave us the option to get out money back in the summer I'd snap their hand off. Which isn't to write him off, but so far I don't see enough of the good moments.

I thought he did OK tbh. His aggression was better for a start.

    Standout season is a stretch.

Like he's been awrite and is probably a victim of his transfer fee similar to Idah, but sometimes he doesn't offer any more than McCowan tbh.

I have said it time and time again. Brendan needs to change to a 4231 and play engles beside calmac in a double pivot

Thought he was decent but i need more from him in these next year. Has shown up well in Europe but the derbies have more or less passed him by.

Still not sure he has the guile to be a top level 8, i feel like I don’t fully know what he is even after a full season.

    Thought he was decent.

Still drifts in and out a bit but that's typical of any young player. He will kick on next year. Easy.

Engels isn't defensively solid enough to play that role efficiently alongside Cal in a 4231, we all saw that against the huns at home a few weeks ago, according to Sofascore, he only attempted 3 ground duels during the 60 mins he was on the pitch today, winning 2, then take Bernardo, attempted 5 ground duels, won 4, double what Engels won in a third of the game time, if either of them should be alongside Cal in a 4231, it's Bernardo

He's not good enough defensively to be a CDM, he's not creative enough to be a 10 and he doesn't put himself about enough to be an effective box to box no:8 type. Games seem to pass him by too often. He gets a pass this season due to age, adjusting to playing 50+ games etc but next season he needs to excel at something or we need to look at putting someone else in imo. Our midfield is too powderpuff.

I've found myself looking like an eejit on far too many occasions when criticizing a player without a full pre season under their belt. He's been absolutely fine for us. Will judge him next season

When he came in, Rodgers noted he wasn't the finished article. Would be foolish to move him on this summer when he's had a decent season and has plenty of room to develop.

    I don’t share that conviction.

There’s been three games against Rangers now that he has been under par for what a Celtic midfielder needs to be.
Playing at the head of a midfield three, he doesn’t have the defensive responsibility that the others have, so he should be able to express himself and impose himself in games.
Given our lead in the league, there wasn’t the pressure that there might be in these games vs them. I worry that the occasion might be too big for him when there is more on the line. His fellow countryman shouldn’t be outperforming him, especially at Celtic park.

Imagine how many players we'd have binned prematurely if it were up to some folk.

He is a good player that will become a star for us. I am confident in that but we also need a warrior of a midfielder in the summer.

I listened to a long podcast with Jim Goodwin which was kinda innteresting. He mentioned about every top team that competes in the CL. Every team have a battling player in the midfield. It is a MUST.
