Celtic have several loanees out looking to impress Brendan Rodgers and one man that falls into that category would be Marco Tilio.

Last summer, the Australia international joined Celtic for £1.5 million, but a mix of injury problems and struggles adjusting to Parkhead life led him back to his homeland on loan at the start of the year.

Unfortunately, Tilio has endured further fitness issues at Melbourne City and is scheduled to be out for at least another few weeks due to a partial tear to his hamstring tendon.

After a long period on the sidelines, Tilio showed signs of promise by scoring against Newcastle Jets, but a familiar tale has put yet another spanner in the works in his bid to claim regular minutes on a weekly basis.

With his Celtic prospects seeming unlikely, Aurelio Vidmar has shed some insight on how the winger is faring on the comeback trail.

Aurelio Vidmar recently spoke about his squad availability at Melbourne City and noted that Tilio has encountered some issues after returning to training alongside Kai Trewin.

He stated before his side’s 2-2 draw against Auckland: “Tilio started also this week and having some issues again

He’s had a little setback this week. Nothing major but might push him back four or five days.”

Later, he added on his potential return timeline: “Tilio is more likely against Central Coast I would say, and hopefully Leckie too.”

Melbourne City are set to take on Central Coast Mariners on Hogmanay, so it may not be too long before the Celtic man is back out on the pitch.

Honestly I'd be looking at trying to end his and/or Kwon's loan deals early and just shift them on permanently, particularly if we've ran out of loan spaces as it would allow us to get the likes of Nawrocki and Yang (assuming we sign another winger along with Jota) out on loan as they're more likely to improve/increase their value than Tilio and Kwon by the looks of things.

Pointless having him contracted to the club. Should look at a way to free him from his contract on the cheap.

I'd honestly just bring him in from his loan and offer to buy him out. Or just freeze him out. As RabS said, just takes up loan space that can be used to improve players or sell them in the future

Aye cut our losses even if he does well there's no money in Aussie league so we ain't gonna get much for him.

Pay him off and take the chance that giving his loan space to Nawrocki will result in is getting a few million for him. Currently we are getting * all for either

A few that we just need to accept we * up and pay them off.

I guess to some degree it's probably better to pay the guy 5k a week over the next couple years than paying him a lump sum of half a mil (or whatever it would work out at).
But for all that's worth, I'm with others - utilise the loan reStrictions better.
They can't just be used any more as a way to get someone out our hair, they need to be beneficial to us now (the loans), so probably better to pay him (and others) off and be done with it.

On-loan winger Marco Tilio has described his 2023 move to Celtic as “crazy”, in a recent podcast appearance to Australian media.

Signed from Melbourne City nearly two summers ago, the attacker is now back at the club on a temporary basis, due to a lack of game time under Brendan Rodgers.

Speaking to Takes from the Terrace on Optus Sports, Tilio detailed how his move to the Scottish champions came about. “There were a few clubs come the end of the season and speaking to all those clubs at the time, I was most convinced by Celtic," he said.

"They a huge team, they had a project for me, and I could not give up the opportunity to play for Celtic. I'm glad I made that decision at the time.

"It was pretty crazy the first day when I got to Glasgow, the building is huge, there are so many people, and there's staff everywhere, there are big players. It was sort of frightening at first because you need to introduce yourself at it's sort of like, 'Who is this little guy?'

"They were very welcoming to me, so that made it a lot easier, but that first day, there were definitely a little bit of nerves. I knew what I was getting into when I went there, so it was important I went in with the right mentality.

“You know you are competing for positions, and you just have to be at it every day and show why you are better

Unfortunately for Tilio, he joined his new club carrying an injury, which hampered his opportunity to impress during pre-season at his new club in Japan. “It was hard... in my head I thought I would only be out a week or so, and up until that point I had never been injured in my career, so I thought I would be fine," he said.

"But then, when I came back to London and did a medical, they said I had done a grade three hamstring tear, so that was a 12-week injury, and I did that rehab all through the Celtic pre-season.

"Being injured was new to me, I did not know the whole rehab side of it and how you approach it, but obviously I learnt it very quickly. It does build up and get a lot (mentally), but it also fuels you, you want to stay out there and play.

"I thought 'enough is enough', I want to do everything I can to make sure I am there playing, and if I am playing consistently, I know what I'm capable of."

"I'd like to think (next season) I am playing consistently over in Europe,"

Since his return to Melbourne, Tilio has made 20 appearances, scoring five times and assisting a further three goals.

He has made just two appearances for Celtic so far, both coming from the bench in the Scottish Premiership.

We paid 1.75m euro for Tilio and he is under contract through 2028 with us so going to be really hard to recoup that money but at this point we would be better off selling him if we can this summer and take whatever we can get.

    Returned to his level.

Rip up his contract and tell him not to bother coming back

could loan him to hibs or hearts and sell him on for 2-3 million depending how he gets on, dont see any harm in that
