There’s no such thing as bad publicity

Never heard of this band before, now everyone has heard off them.

say something controversial and it will rack up your tweets or twats and you’ll be famous
Doesn’t matter if your band is *, just put peoples noses out of joint and you’ll be a hit
By next week nobody will care

Everyone heard of them before this came out, supporting Palestine at one of the biggest festivals on the planet did that for them.

This absolutely is bad publicity and that’s why it’s being pushed.

This is spot on from their manager. “They are being held to a higher moral account than policitians who are ignoring international law”.

I don't think it is bad publicity, the people who give a * would never listen to their music anyway.

I think this is hard to judge as a situation as a whole, there is a clip floating about (I personally haven't seen it) but it could just be a clip with a wider context.

I think the quote from the manager just comes across as whatboutery though.

It’s not whataboutery, they just put out a message about Genocide and nobody gave a *. Suddenly there’s outrage. There is a clear double standard there.

Clearly politicians only care about issues that directly affect them.

    I hadn’t heard of them.

Don’t love their music but don’t dislike it either. Not sure where I stand on it being bad/good publicity - obviously gigs being cancelled is bad, but the notoriety and publicity of good.

I think it was a daft thing to say and that people should take more held responsible for what they do say - wether it’s the likes of Tate promoting misogyny, or the left/right promoting violence against those who they don’t share political views with.

That said, I don’t think they should be hung out to dry over it. They’re musicians with a fairly edgy sound/image; and much worse will have been said/done right across the entertainment industry.

They aren't the first band in history to spout nonsense in the name of being edgy, only to quickly retreat and apologise. Won't be the last.

But a bit of me likes the idea that music can still be viewed as dangerous and worthy of banning. Feels like it's been a while.

They've always been pro Palestinian and are from a community that strongly sympathises with the Palestinian cause. They are from a country that is also for the most part pro Palestinian.

    As for kill an MP
    [IMG]
Very common place in the north of Ireland. It seems kill an MP is only acceptable if it's an Irish MP or Jeremy Corbyn.

Shared that and it was called whataboutery.

Staying silent on genocide and the bombing of children doesn’t really match up to inciting violence towards MP’s.

Ones enabling a war crime and the other is a really stupid comment that’s been apologised for, and ultimately will be forgotten about.

On a selfish level, I’ve got tickets for the green man festival and will be well surprised if they get dropped from that one. Watched the film there last year before the official release date, think there is a relationship between them, but nothing to back that up.

That's disgraceful, as a silver lining I would say that's a sign of her being successful.

I don’t really give a * about the ‘Up Hamas’ and ‘Up Hezbollah’ chants. Really don’t care.

The ‘kill your local MP’ was mad stupid. Ridiculous thing to say and that is an incitement to violence for me. Probably the only comment that I believe should be investigated.

At the same time, I can understand why people are rightly trying to point out the hypocrisy of this. Say something stupid, that you’ve apologised for- CANCELLED. Literally beat up your girlfriend, like Chris Brown, aye that’s fine. Keep selling out concerts and performing at the superbowl. It’s beyond mental.

Aside from anything else, Kneecaps music is * *, as is most rap. It’s also clear that there is a far bigger onus being put on them because of their very public support of Palestine. I don’t think there’s any doubt about that.

Nah, you've convinced me. As soon as my official Kneecap replica balaclava arrives in the post, sign me up.

Greens first though. That's proper rebellious.
