At this moment in time it's Brown, but only just.

By the time he retires I think it'll be McGregor

Brown basically set the tone for the club carryin on from Lennon and Thompson and Mjallby and that. Stayed a long time, brushed off on Tierney, McGregor, Forrest and everyone who signed while he was here like Mulgrew, Ledley, Stokes, Griffiths.

    Much more important probably.

Taylor, McGregor, Tierney will probably carry on from Brown to others down the line you hope.

This is a * of a question, because both are so different in what they bring/brought to us, and in their styles.

Best way I can think to describe them is the military term of "war general" and "peacetime general"... For me, when * hit the fan and backs were to the walls it was Broony you wanted on the pitch, and in general inspirational and progressive times it's Cal, who's more 'football', and comes from the ranks...

Cal also has the benefit of a dominant position that Broony helped put in place to express himself...

For me, it's Broony by a microscopic whisker, but there's really nothing in it and there's no slight on Cal either...

Brown by a country mile. He was a once in a lifetime player and captain.

No disrespect to McGregor, who probably would admit, Brown was the par excellence Celtic captain, who he learned off, and carried on his tradition and memory.

Brown. McGregor a better footballer but I'd be picking Broony to be alongside me in the trenches every day of the week.

\O/ Brown brought a certain 'let's have it' attitude, the fire inside him burnt wildly and it showed on the pitch. Calmac is more of a calm influence and a more skilfully gifted leader but Scotty Bhoy showed a passion and grim determination for the side. I felt at times this season with some of our current squad this has been lacking a bit. Don't get me wrong Calmac has moments of 'getting into them' and Scott had periods of calm persuasion. But I enjoyed the cheek and 'that'll be sore in the morning', over the thinking 'what a great pass' moments. :boxing:

    Two totally different players

Callum is the cool calm type

Scott is a pitbull getting in people's faces and getting stuck in

This is going to sound terrible but Calmac for me is pretty much a standard top class (if that makes sense) captain. Encouraging and spurs on his teammates. I find the pre match stuff we have seen from the dressing room and the footage of him during warm ups and during games the sort of words and actions I would expect from any captain. Of course he is a fantastic player too but playing ability doesn't come into the argument for me. His professionalism is unquestionably off the charts.

Broony just had 'something' as a captain and leader that inspires me more. Someone you'd simply love to have on your side out on the pitch and to have your back. As Minty said, it took him a while to grow and mature into where he ultimately ended up. But he is quite far ahead for me in the most important captain question.

Hard one to call as others have said, two different players and characters.

A think a lot of credit has to go to CalMac on being able to follow Broony as captain and make it his own without skipping a beat.

I'm no gonna choose, just blessed we have had so many good captains over the years. Long may it continue.

I think they are both perfect for their time, if you know what a mean.

Right now, Broony by a whisker (as others have said). But both have exceptional qualities as captains.

It's one of those what you like questions really. For me, Broony is one of those captains that you looked up to. Had players willing to give everything for. Could galvanise and be confident with him that he would turn defeats in to victories under his guidance. Be it a driving run. A battering tackle to set the tone. Hammering in to teammates..

McGregor has been an excellent captain and leads more by example. Broony did as well to be fair. Played like he trained..

Like yourself, Broony is more the kinda captain I really take to. When you see the hits he took and rolled, getting up like a boss after sheep players repeatedly trying to cripple him at Pittodrie. That's for me. The huns games galore the way he terrorised them. There's a reason the huns will always, always despise Broony. He literally owned them and ruled the roost in this country..

McGregor has surprisingly (to me) followed suit....but Broony all the way..

I actually don't like McGregor's interviews. It's all very media trained. Says the same thing all the time in my opinion..

Think Broony edges it just by sheer personality alone. Obviously Calmac is the better player technically, but as a captain he's lacking in aggression at times.

I want my captains absolutely fearless in the face of provocation which Brown absolutely was. Crazy * on the pitch and a born leader.

Paul Lambert was a better player than both of them....he also captained us to the UEFA cup final.
Petrov too....a better player than both of them in that position

Brown. I don't even think i agree with the opinion that McGregor is the better footballer but Brown was definitely a better captain.

Agree. He was so * good at winding * up that he even got the best players in the world hating him lol. He literally talked * off the park to get red carded on several occassions.

Him and Lustig was the funniest duo i have ever seen at the club.

The 'born leader' stuff about Broony is demonstrably false, given that he had to grow into the role, and that he admitted being naive when initially becoming captain. It was Rodgers who really got him to buck his ideas up in terms of professionalism, otherwise he would've been done (like the covid season) much earlier than he was.
