    He was the best player at Euro 2004 before getting injured.

    In the same way you can't tarnish Messi because Argentina haven't won the World Cup, you can't take anything away from Rooney because England are * at Major Finals.

    His goal scoring record is exceptional and he's been a top player for what feels like forever.

    They might have won it in '04 if Rooney hadn't * his foot - what a player he was in that tournament.

    I like to see all the top players playing well and he is suffering just now, LVG's style of play cannot be helping.

    He will go back to Everton one day.
