Tomoki Iwata

Discussion in 'Ex Players' started by Notorious, Dec 30, 2022.

  1. Reckon he can contribute, so worth keeping, not exactly high dollar either.
Our best performance recently was when played the DM role v Hibs.
He would have been ideal to bring on against the Huns when we were trying to see out the game, instead of Turnbull.

  3. Niggling injuries. I really think there's a player there and he was hard done by earlier in the season. I'd have had him ahead of turnbull, Holm, and at thr time bernardo. Especially in CL.
Although bernardo now is becoming what the club expected

  4. He is worth holding on to, the timing with his injuries/Bernardo coming to form have been unfortunate for him but surely still has a role to play...

  5. I really like him, O’Riley’s the only guy I think to trust taking McGregor’s role if he gets injured. And we lose far too much further up the pitch if he’s needed further back, the only other guy who I have no issue stepping into that role is Iwata. He’s also the only guy we have that can go in there that is an absolute tank.

If I was a club looking at any of our players I’d be coming straight in for iwata. Never put a foot wrong just can’t hold down a place cos of our other options. And I’m sure we wouldn’t ask for much for him.

    hope he doesn’t leave

  6. He is a guy who has been quite unfortunate in his career twice Ange has brought him to a club only to move on months later.

For me he is a player worth keeping, in the game against them on the 30th he would have been the ideal replacement for Bernardo at that point in the game. There are plenty of others at the club I would move on first.

The only thing is whether he is happy playing a bit part role as I don’t think he will be a regular here, where I think he could be for a team at a decent level.

But from a squad perspective he won’t be on big wages and is an able deputy.

Hopefully he isn’t out injured long term, was it not his knee he went down with?

  7. Agree with everything there. The series of injuries is worrying though. Just like with Mikey Johnston there comes a point if a player cannot stay fit then you have to move on. But for me there is a player there as you say and we should keep Tomokoi. IMHO there is a pretty long line of players who should be heading out the door this January if possible but Tomokoi is not one of them.

  8. Except this is not a classic niggling injury. He had a brief time out when he wasn't on the bench, then was playing until a challenge in the Feyenoord game left him limping. He didn't break down on his own. We just don't know what was the exact injury.

Iwata may need to play more of a part, with McGregor pushed on, the way things are going..

Never any questions asked about his injury and Rodgers never seems to mention him when giving squad updates.

Could be an important player 2nd half of the season.

  13. BR has still never mentioned what his current injury is

  14. He actually said he likes him mate he's just been unlucky with injuries

  15. Havnt seen him in any of the training pics since he got injured.

Would be good if the manager could be asked * is happening with him

  16. Can’t overstate how important it is he gets back fit asap. Any word on when he’s back?

  17. Have we not had any update on his injury at all, what it is, any timescale?

The whole balance of our midfield looked better than it has all season when he was in there and McGregor had the freedom to push further forward, it was much more in line with how we were in Rodgers first stint with Brown doing the dirty work in the 6 instead of McGregor carried over from Ange's system, he's simply not a DM and we need to get away from him playing there.

  18. he's had a couple of niggling injuries this year and no one ever seems to know wen he's back or an update on him? It's really strange. CCV or Hatate are injured and we know pretty much straight away the timescale.

I really like Iwata I think he's what we have been screaming out for in that position for years. Needs to stay fit though

  19. McGregor is brilliant as the 6, just even more effective further up. I’ve been screaming for Iwata to get a run, he then gets injured and now apparently has vanished.
