Doig, Hickey and Calvin Ramsay are all full backs i feel we should have moved for. We have wasted money on far worse players.

 

Outwith CM and arguably CB the squad is a shambles we're moving in to the business end of the season and a couple of injuries could see us relying on guys like Oh, Bernabei, Ralston, Bain

 

I agree with this too, this is obviously guesstimating but with Ange he would have been able to be very prescriptive in what he wanted because of how system driven he is. He was also big on character.

Rodgers no doubt will have flagged certain attributes e.g. “power and pace”, even a winger that likes to cut in on his strong foot, Kuhn and Palma but isn’t as systematic based and relies on individual quality more.

This is probably where the quality statement comes from what Ange wanted was players who could play a specific role as part of his system. What Rodgers wants is intelligent footballers. Given we clearly have limitations in our scouting finding the later isn’t probably as easy a task.

The other issue we have is Rodgers is more a Head Coach than a manager hence the big staff he brought here and took to Leicester with him. He has only actually managed to bring 2 of them back here as far as I know, plus the coach to replace Kewell.

So letting Rodgers loose on the transfer market is only going to work if it’s players he knows, e.g. Sinclair and Toure but it’s likely we are looking at EPL out of squad guys.

Being honest the above is why I would probably take Thomas for left back, I think he has enough about him to offer something we are missing at left back in athleticism and a decent all round full back.

That press conference statement is about as depressing as it gets. Nothing whatever to report, pretending like it's nigh-on impossible to sign good players, telling us about how he wants to bring through youth players without actually naming any. Absolutely zero mention of selling or loaning out players either, which is equally as worrying given the size and youth of our squad.

We've entered an age of austerity despite being both rich in liquid and human assets. The dinosaurs in the boardroom need to step aside in favour of men who want to use those assets to make serious money. We're in a market where rich clubs fling unsustainable money at transfers and we're sitting on our hands watching far smaller clubs rake it in and pass us by. Our excessive conservatism is taking us backwards.

 

The fact they seem to pre preparing this line of "It's hard to get quality in January" just makes me wonder well why didn't you get the quality in the summer ? The problem positions remain the same as they did in the summer nothing has changed. It's sheer negligence

 

I just cannot comprehend that the argument seems to be that its impossible to find a single left back in the world who wants to play for us that is better than what we have. With over 50m in the bank our scouting team cannot see a player in world football that we can afford and is better than Greg Taylor?! That's the suggestion they are putting forward as explanation. The board ambition in Europe is zero and their domestic transfers over the last 2 windows is getting to that stage as well .
Are they truly want to gamble a £60 million pot and hand to sevco as their board won't hang around and they will spend it .

 

I know I'm just being naive but there's still a bit of me wanting to believe that we will sign a couple of half decent players before the window closes

 

Celtic will replace Joe Hart as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper in the summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider’s Insider Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Hoops are actively seeking a long-term replacement for Hart, whose contract expires at the end of the season.


It is believed that Brendan Rodgers is eager for a new shot-stopper, but is happy to keep Hart between the sticks for the remainder of the season.



However, well-placed sources revealed to Football Insider that the goalkeeper position is the club’s top priority for the summer window.

As revealed by Football Insider (22 January), the Hoops are eyeing a move for Liverpool’s backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in the summer, who could cost up to £20million.

Hart has been the Hoops’ undisputed number one since his arrival from Tottenham in the summer of 2021, racking up 133 appearances in all competitions.




Celtic had been linked with a move for Iceland international Hakon Valdimarsson, but he has since reportedly agreed terms to move to Premier League side Brentford this month.

Sources also told Football Insider that Rodgers’ side are keen to snap up Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin in the summer, but he is likely to be too expensive.

Football Insider also revealed (22 January) that the club are also ready to sanction a move for third-choice shot-stopper Benjamin Siegrist this month amid interest from across Europe.

Its been clear for a few seasons now that Hart needed replaced.
Why has it taken so long for this to happen? We simply dont operate like a well run outfit. And we cant even challenge the board about this due to the way the AGM is set up.

We should have had targets identified for the open of the window. We are always playing catch up and its the same story repeating itself..

Not gonna lie, as the days tick down I get worried that Kuhn will be our only signing.

We really needed at least 3 players this window (LB, ST and Winger) argubly 4 with GK, but I wasn't expecting a GK this window.

To end the window with 2 would be disappointing, to end it with 1 would be beyond negligent. The league is far from over.

Surely to * there’s someone in world football within our budget that is better than Greg Taylor… We’ve only needed a proper left back since KT.

 

For me a big part of what I do is maximising what we have. I know what we need to do in the squad. I know clearly the profile of player that’s needed here to help us going forward. And if they’re available then I’m sure the club will do everything they can to help us on that.

In the summer, we were told that Rodgers wanted to conclude his business in January. Now, it's wait until the summer. They must think we're mugs.

 

I have thought this since the AGM actually, compare him from his first presser to the AGM and other interviews since he looks completely uninterested and i don’t blame him. Obviously been promised a change in the way we go about things in the summer and talks of taking the next step and better players will be signed and yet we have 1 new signing who is a regular in the starting 11 and 1 signing in a window he stated we needed a few quality players in, champions in May or not I don’t see Rodgers being our manager come the new season.

 

Livakovic was up for sale over the summer. Everyone round here suspected we'd be in for him and then found out we never enquired, never approached, nothing.

As for signing a keeper from RM, we'll end up taking a wee £2m punt on some lad from Timbuktu whose voice has just broke. We only sign projects, never established players.
