Where should we improve?

I love the current squad. But we can't rest on that. It's an interesting conundrum. In seasons past even as recently as a couple of years ago, there was a clear sense, at least to me, of where we needed to improve in squad depth and positions and personnel. But it's a bit hazier this time around - a good thing.

Nothing's concrete for me. So I put it to you - where do we need to improve, reinforce, replace, adapt to make progress and ensure next season will be even better, especially in Europe?

 

GK is a must for me, love hart he gets the club and has done great and hope he remains at the club in some capacity but I think he's one of our weakest players ability wise now. Oh is another I'm not 100% so another fw and RW would be next. If Abada stays I'd have him on the right Jota on the left, keep haska for lw to switch with jota and bring in another RW to switch with abada

 

CB cover is also thread thin.

 

A manager first..

 

Was about to say the same, you canny sail the ship withoot a captain at the helm!

 

On the pitch mainly.

 

We need a tall and powerful midfielder. It’s imperative in today’s game, with every top team having at least one.

Left back is also a position that needs upgraded, given every European team targeted our left hand side this year - as well as SPL clubs beginning to do it.

 

A goal keeper, centre back and a forward to give us quality in depth.

 

Cantwell's quite tall tbf.

 

First off having a manager will help us.

After that for me we need the following.

GK, Harts final season but we need to add real quality.

Centre half x 2 - one back up and one to come into the starting 11, I am being ruthless regarding Starfelt here.

Centre defensive mid big holding type who can break plays up.

A true number 10 that has an engine and that extra bit of quality regarding set plays and unlocking defences.

Starting right winger.

Another forward.

These for me are the minimum.

 

RM, AM, DM, LB, GK, FW is what I want improved (ranked in order of priority)

Not all of which have to be 1st team starters but as always we should be aiming at the highest quality possible to challenge

 

New number 10! Some * that can change a game with something special.

A big smelly CB.

Another striker who can bang a few in.

And as much as it pains me a younger Joe Hart. Love him but we do need a new No1.

 

Assuming none of our current players leave (which will be unlikely).

We need a new keeper. Joe Hart too old now.

An athletic left back will likely be on Rodgers list. Bernebei is raw but he's definitely the type of fullback Rodgers likes. Maybe Rodgers can work his magic on him. Either way I don't see Rodgers going for Taylor so we'll need another.

A CB to challenge CCV and Starfelt.

We need an athletic box to box CM

Another winger. Again I can see Rodgers seeing Abada as a bit of a project but we might not keep ahold of him.

Another striker, given Kyogo and Oh could be away for the Asian Cup in January.

Taylor may be a casualty unless Rodgers sees his ability in CM. Could maybe be a bit of a utility player but I suspect he'll lose his stating place.

Maeda may struggle for a place unless Rodgers, like Ange, is willing to trade skill for Maeda's unbelievable work rate. Will be an interesting one

 

I think that was true in Ange's first season; but last season, I genuinely thought Taylor did a more secure job than Juranovic. I seem to remember a lot more goals down Juranovic's side.

 

And pace. His pace was so useful to us defensively in Europe.

 

In order of priority:

RW - for Abada to compete with (ideally one who is also very comfortable up front for cover)
LB - not confident BR will like Taylor
CB - to try to take Starfelt's place
GK - starter
Box 2 Box midfielder - to start alongside CalMac and Reo

 

This is obviously without knowing which players will be leaving the club, but I think we need:

1. A goalie to replace Hart
2. A capable back up for Taylor as Bernabei hasn’t shown anything defensively so far.
3. A right winger.
   
4. A more capable back up CB than Kobayashi.
   
5. A central midfielder.

 

Almost the same as if ANge was still here, but one or two small differences

1 - GK to replace Hart, if Ange stayed I think it would have been to compete, but I suspect Rodgers/our new manager will want to bring in their own GK.

2 - LB, Same as above. Taylor was excellent last season but I'm not sure how he'd fair in a Rodgers system, doesn't deserve to lose his place but I think LB will be high up on the buying list

3 - CB, Need serious competition for Starfelt for next year. Welsh will probably leave and Kobayashi currently isn't good enough.

4 - 2 x Midfielder. Looks like we've got one already with Odin, but we need another, should be priority even if O'Riley stays

5 - RW. Even if Abada stays, we need another RW to compete with him. Forrest is done and Jota is much better on the left.

For the January window, I wouldn't be surprised to see us target another RB and CB potentially.

 

Will be interesting to see if Rodgers goes in for any of the Leceister players.
