I would urge people not to watch the video. I stumbled across it in my Twitter feed and it’s horrible. Can’t shake it out of your mind bad.

Yeah, I started watching that on Twatter and then thought no way am I watching someone getting eaten to death so stopped. Imagine the family seeing their loved one eaten alive across social media. Oof.

Glad, I'm not really into swimming!

Tragic accident but it’s also a sad end for the shark that was only acting naturally. I’ve dived with many sharks and have never felt under threat from any of them. That’s how rare these events are.

Recently spent a few weeks diving with Tiger sharks in Bahamas and have nothing but respect for these fascinating animals. Unfortunately these rare attacks drive people’s misconceptions about their behaviour.

While it’s obviously tragic why was the shark clubbed to death afterwards? Not really his fault he was hungry is it?

Millions of Sharks are killed every year all across the World, let alone countless other Wildlife. Humans have a habit of portioning blame on a certain species at a certain time despite the fact that humans kill humans all the time as well as Wildlife and Domestic Animals.

    This whole incident is horrible.
Clubbing the shark to death was barbaric.

I've done cage diving in South Africa with great whites many times ind I loved doing that , unfortunately it's a rare sight there now due to the orcas that have turned up there.

It's on my list to do the tigers , have you got the company details and a rough price estimate for your Bahamas trip?

Think this could be my go to trip next year with the family.

I was horrified what they did to that shark, ultimately my favourite animal and have been fascinated from a young age.

Quite bad to be fair but seen that much stuff on twitter and that that it didn't overly faze me..

Grim as * though, no question. What a gruesome way to go. I watched it in bed and didn't have the volume up but apparently he was shouting papa for his onlooking da :90:

Seen some comments saying that they kill the shark after as they then have a taste for humam flesh and can pass it down the genes but I haven't got a clue if that's right or no..

Price wise it wasn’t cheap at all. With flights and accommodation, dives etc around the 8k mark. It’s not cheap to eat / drink out there either so add another few k to that. Worth every penny though.

Speaking of Orca I’ve a trip booked to Skjervøya in January to snorkel with the Orca and humpbacks there. Been out twice previously further down the coast In Andandes on Lofoten islands and spent hrs in the water with them. Again I’m blown away by their inquisitive nature

Tigers are more scavengers than hunters, Bull sharks are aggressive but anytime I’ve encountered a bull shark in the water it’s kept at least 30m distance from us. But without checking I believe tiger sharks are accountable for most human fatalities in shark attacks. Basically if a tiger shark detects weakness it will attack, but will avoid any form of confrontation to minimise the risk of injury

I didn't know that about Tiger sharks. Bull sharks I've deffo seen are mad aggressive..

White tips don't get mentioned but pretty sure they hunt in packs and are pretty deadly in their own right. If I'm no mistaken there was a dive expedition a couple year back and someone was way too close and the White tip came in and took a chunk of the leg and the diver died. Was a lot of complaints about how the instructors let that happen..

Aye white tips are like the wolves of the oceans. The reason why so little attacks happen is due to their habitat being more in open oceans away from human interaction. But the dive trips to get out to interact with them are usually quite complex dives with strong currents etc. again sharks will detect weakness and if they see a diver struggling in any way they will take their chance on them

If humans are effectively invading the sharks habitat… why should the shark suffer? Humans have such a lip-sided view on what is justified when nature decides they are fair game.

That said…. each to their own re. swimming with sharks… but you’d have to pay me some serious wedge to get in the water with those big buggers never mind pay handsomely for the privilege. Whale sharks maybe..

I read somewhere that there is thought to be a sustainable population of great white sharks in the Mediterranean - possibly a breeding ground of the coast of Sicily.

The liver of the great white is a delicacy for them. They’ll kill them solely for that and leave the rest.

Orca have always been the animal I’ve been most interested in. They’re the smartest, most ruthless, cruel * when it comes to the hunt but seemingly very curious about us. They could quite easily make a meal of us but they’re not interested, for whatever reason.

There’s a pod off the west coast and quite a few up north, but they’re dwindling in numbers. You get the odd transient pod passing the Western Isles too.
