One bright spot about Ange going to Tottenham could potentially be attracting a higher calibre of coach, as they may see a pathway to big jobs in the Premier League. Not that we want to lose our manager every 2 years, but anybody doing really well here is probably going to be off before too long regardless.

    Knutsen seems incredibly loyal.

Must be great having a manager like that.

Er, I would, actually. Would love to see Ange take a club like that (or indeed Forest) back to the kind of level he is capable of.

You'd respect or be okay with Ange leaving two years into a job to go to a club with a fraction of our budget with even less potential than us of truly making a mark in Europe? You'd think that's a job worthy of leaving us for?

Fwiw I completely understand and support his rationale for taking the Tottenham job. It's life changing money, a life changing opportunity and probably this window of time is the last real chance he'll get at a job like that given his age etc.

If he goes to Tottenham and is a success even over another 24 months he could have any job he wants in world football. Its quite simple.

Look at the managers they've been hiring in recent history.

If he went to a Forest or Bucharest that would not be the case. Its a huge move for him.

    If only I was DD.

I'd have a private jet waiting at Bodo to pick up knutsen, with Iraola already on board, with the two forced into a knife fight mid air to see who gets the job and which one gets * out the airlock.

I'd pump 150m into our transfer model to scour the globe and sign players with incredible re sell value, ensuring we can be actually competitive in the market a la Ajax.

And I'd have those * poles around the stadium painted once a * month.

Not a bad shout, was thinking that myself.

Given our finances and the nature of Scottish football... And I hate myself for admitting this, this, for any real manager of note, should be a one horse race.
Obviously it's not as simple as that, but in many ways it is.

The very fact that our last two successful managers have been poached by EPL clubs, NOT on the relegation radar is a massive carrot for any ambitious manager. With Ange proving age is not a barrier either.

I'm pretty sure Knutsen would've actually bit someone's hand off for that Brighton job. But it's also fair to say that his domestic trophies didn't get the full attention or appreciation they deserved. Whereas ours obviously do, a little bit more at least.

I'm not saying it's win the league and get your crack at the EPL. It has to be done, let's say, with a certain flamboyance.

In that respect alone, plus CL football, and as I said, a purpose built squad for his football philosophy, we'd be mad not to go for Knutsen, and he'd be mad not to jump at it.

And... The EPL is the land of milk and honey for competent managers. Even bog standard managers seem to get straight back into work again down there because of their 'premiership experience' and it's big money until they retire or screw up so badly they tarnish it

I think it comes down to the managers ambitions for their career. If they want to go to the EPL - money, glory, insane budgets then we're a prime move. They're virtually guaranteed a pathway from us if good, because a competent manager with us is winning leagues and seeing CL yearly.

If however they want the top European team pathway, I'm not sure we're good, because we never send anyone to bundesliga or primeraliga etc. They don't value the league, and therefore us...

He’s definitely put himself forward cause he’ll see us as a stepping stone to EPL, but that is now the norm for us.

Knutsen is the only one I feel that could stay for more than 3 years if it goes well.

Well, I didn't actually say that I'd "be OK with Ange leaving us" to join these clubs.; what I actually said was that I'd respect it more than going to Spurs. That's something quite different. Regarding your assessment, you may be right about SB; but that's not really the point. Do you think WE are a small club? I don't; but if you apply your values consistently, you end up with the same assessment of us as the average EPL fan has. We've done zilch in Europe since 2003 and won nothing for more than half a century. Not only that, I also think with the right management, Forest could have quite a bit of potential in Europe if they continue to build, expand their stadium, get the right structure in place, etc. The exact same is true of us (minus the stadium expansion).

Regarding Ange, I personally doubt money had much to do with his decision, but I do agree with you about the part in bold.

TL;DR: Not everybody shares your values and I still think Nottingham Forest was a very odd choice in the original post I quoted, because I see them as a club rather like us.

I get the attraction of Spurs. I'm not disputing that and have talked about the opportunities myself in numerous posts. That wasn't the point of my post. The point was that Forest are an odd choice of "small club". They're not a small club.

The more I’ve read about Iraoli the more impressed I am.

Still going for Knutsen, because his side absolutely made us look *, but either would be excellent.

Think that looks likely, to be honest. Said he's not going anywhere until December and that will be too late for us and Ajax I would imagine.

Still my number 1 choice though.
