He'll probably need some minutes before the final.

 

Can I just ask you how Alistair Johnson and where he is in terms of possibly make it back for that cup final in a weeks time?

He trained today and that was his first session. He won't play tomorrow, but all things being equal, if he gets through sort of the rest of week's training then he should be available for the weekend's game. We'll just see hopefully getting him some game time in the weekend and then assess it from there. He's worked really hard, obviously with the cup final in mind to try and get back and he's got back really well and he's worked hard with the medical team and he looked after himself really well. It was good to see him training today and just good to have him part of it because he's obviously been a big part of it in the second-half of the year.

 

Great news to see him back out there. Would imagine we see him playing Saturday against Aberdeen to get some minutes into him before the final.

 

Hopefully get him 60mins vs Aberdeen all going well then and start the final, so glad he’s back training already.

So important to us now.

Without him or CCV we lack so much when trying to play out from the back, not to mention defensively. That was shown up against the huns, Tony just wasn't able to play through the press in the same way Johnston is, same for Berbabei. If we're stopped playing out we find it very difficult to get into any kind of rhythm.

 

Full-back Johnston has been out of action since limping out of that 3-0 Old Firm defeat but is on course to be passed fit for the final. Postecoglou said: “Alistair is back in training and won’t be ready for the Hibs game, but should be okay for the weekend.

“It’s good to have him back. We will see how he goes the next few days and take it from there. It was a sore one at the time but he has worked hard in rehab with the medical team.

“Thankfully it wasn’t too serious and with the cup final at the start of June, he was keen to get back as quickly as possible.”

 

It was the cup semi he went off injured has not played since.

I'll be interested to see how much he'll feature at the weekend. He definitely needs some minutes if Ange plans on playing him in the cup final.

 

Has to start the final. Our defence needs strengthened as much as possible.

 

Great news, unless he gets game time at the weekend though I wouldn't throw him into the final. We seen what happened with Hatate and Mooy.
