After the 2022 WC débâcle regarding LGBT rights I think FIFA should get their fingers out and ban those countries that victimise LGBT people.
However, that would cause big problems for at least 1 federation.
Out of the 56 nations in CONCACAF 45 of them imprison LGBT people, some of them execute LGBT people.

Completely agree, this kind of crap has been ignored across the sporting world for far too long.

In the 22 World Cup, 3 Asian countries and all 5 African countries. Recent qualifiers such as Nigeria and Egypt too. The reality is that the world is a pretty * place. You'd be banning g about 70 countries, many of them wealthy Middle Eastern, FIFA don't have the balls.
32 African countries would need to withdraw
    21 Asian countries
6 from from Carribean / North America
    7 from the Pacific
AFC, CAF and OFC would all lose over half their members

They should lose all those members.
Discriminating against people because of their sexual preference is wrong.
FIFA should be told by ALL the other nations that can qualify for the World Cup that the countries that discriminate against LGBT people by jailing or executing them should be banned from all football competitions. That includes players NOT playing in those countries.
For example Mo Salah, unless he publicly condemns his country’s policy of abusing and jailing LGBT should be banned from playing for Liverpool.
That would get the point across.
If he doesn’t condemn Egypt and Liverpool still pick him then Liverpool get banned from all UEFA competitions.
FIFA and UEFA need to start playing hardball.

On the one hand, that could come off as pretty extreme. On the other, however, you have to ask just how far should we go to afford other human beings basic dignity. The right of an individual or country to take part in a sporting tournament is surely a far lower priority than the right of an individual not to be executed as a result of their sexuality?

And don’t forget how we tackled apartheid in South Africa - yet here are a group of countries for whom apartheid doesn’t go far enough.

I agree, those countries see a sporting competition as a low priority but the publicity and shitstorm it would cause would be epic.
Just think if national sports such as cricket, rugby, swimming and tennis all did the same thing.

But then it would be OK for somebody to think imprisonment of gay people is the right thing as long as their country doesn't practice it.

No. If its on their statute books then they get banned.
