Its tough for us the fans, but this season Strachan and Lawell are being very strict. Both seem content only to spend when it makes sense. The deals done so far show that. From a fans point of view i'm gutted that we haven't signed as many big name signings as we were linked with early on, i.e. Rat, Frei, Tamas, etc etc. But at the same time I appreciate that Strachan feels his squad from last season is good enough and is willing to play hard ball or even miss out altogether when we are essentially held to ransom. Its fair enough and you have to respect that it makes dreaded 'business sense'. If anything it should mean we hold off until January and teams will start to accept that we will drop our interest if they want to be arsey about things.

It's not how much money is paid, it's the quality of the player.

Sell Mcgeady, your havin a laff. We need to show a bit more ambition than that if we are going to win the SPL and progress in the champions league.:52:

I would agree, but have we bought better than we've already got. What we have bought so far are only squad players and will arguably not go straight into the first team. What celtic need are 2 or 3 players to improve the first team not the squad.

The way you're talking is as if Rangers have signed some kinds of superstars here of the Laudrup / Gazza ilk.

Fact: None of their new signings are better than what we have.
Fact: Their 2 recent outgoings WERE better than our equivalent: (Hutton/Hinkel & Cuellar/Mick) :bbpd: Cheeri-*-o

I think their transfers are bringing out the "grass is always greener" amongst some of yous. They have WEAKENED. Which is much worse than staying roughly the same (but strengthening the squad). And whos to say we don't have a cracker up our sleeves yet?

I suspect what I've highlighted there is simplified economics. Brum paid nearly £6 million for McFadden alone so him, Maloney + signing fees might just break about even. How about keep McGeady and bring in Maloney? We'd still have money to strengthen elsewhere.

    -

People are constantly saying we aren't doing enough to bring in players, we aren't pushing the boat out enough (or the bank) to improve. I say to yee, where are all these mysterious huge improvements, for around the or less than £5 million who are willing to play on £10-15k a week? They can goto Sunderland and get £40k no bother. * Gary Cahill moved recently for £6 million - GARY CAHILL!

Our board and manager are being unbelievably calm and astute in this madness of a goldfishbowl that is the Old Firm in the transfer market.

Never again will we spend millions on * when we have homegrown talent at a fraction of the cost.

Why didn't we sign Tamas? Why didn't we sign Bassas? If these guys were so * hot and available for less than £20k a week don't you think any old Premiership no-hopers would have snapped them up by now?

Remember against AC Milan or whoever it was when we won. I believe our backline consisted of:

    ...................BORUC..................
    CALDWELL...O'DEA..MICK...NAYLOR

    Total Cost: <£1 million.

Hopefully you can see how we are trying to operate and cut the board a bit of slack.

    Regards,

    supermike

The reason is mate is that MURRAY is desperate to appease the knuckle draggers and try and show them that they have money when all they are doing is getting further and further into debt, and i do agree we should be moving to be even stronger but that never seems to be the way we do things we always wait till ther scum bags have caught us up then we spend big.

Most of the players rangers acquired would be squad players over here too... and they've spent quite a bit on them (and I don't just mean the total, I mean they've overpaid.)
Miller, Lafferty, Velicka, Edu would all be stuck eternally in our reserves with Riordan. And I'm sure a couple of the others as well, but I haven't seen enough of 'em yet to feel comfortable slagging them.

Anyway -- I think we do need to bring somebody that can punch the front 11 higher. And if that's not a LB, then we need one of those too.

thats just not true. mendes would get a game for us in the middle anyday. * he must be a hun!! no fact is hartley is pretty rubbish and browns another mindless ned. its like a scottish conception that if a player makes a few good tackles hes a player. Im not convinced by either of them. None of them have any sort of creativity that central mids in other countries have.

RFC are outspending us because they need to to come close to being on the same level.

super mike couldn't agree more mate and the back line against then holders milan proves it all you don't have to spend big to win. i also think rangers are panic buying and i trust WGS and the board are doing there upmost to improve the club and the playing staff.

I don´t want to sell anyone mate and I agree we need to show a bit more ambition. It just seems the ambition is lacking just now, as our signings thus far suggest.

Why do you think that is?

Believe me mate I really don´t care what the huns do, others have brought their dealings up I just gave my thoughts in response.

To clarify I dont think they have brought in "superstars" however IMO the Huns have strengtend from last season.

Anyhow as I´ve said many times Rankers dont concern me at all. It´s all about what we do and I hope you are right and we do have a couple of crackers up our sleeve.

As I said above I don´t want to sell anyone.

I am not too sure how accurate your figures are but yes in an ideal world you scenario would be best.

Supermike the whole point is we should be paying the going rate in terms of wages, if we have ambition to improve. If we dont have that ambiton then instaed of tantalising the fans with statements that we will strengthen and funds are available. Just say we are not capable of bringing in the quality needed to take us on to the next level. However I believe we do have the capabiliies, in terms of being able to pay wages comparable to most of Europes clubs. Perhaps not the EPL but they are in a very low percentage in terms of club numbers, they cant possibly buy everyone.

It just seems to me that we are struggling to sign our targets. We hear on a daily basis comments from WGS explaining that we can´t compete in the market, his line of choice seems to be we can´t afford 15 million pound players. I am sorry but we dont need to pay 15 million on a player too improve our team. Their are bargains to be had, from free agents to 2-3 million pound players. For the life of me I cant understand why we dont get some in. You have to ask yourself, why are we not doing this?

    Not sure what this means?

We are in the same position as 90% of Europes club sides, agents will know what level of player to pitch and I am sure they will have a good idea about our wage structure. The phone must be ringing non stop at the moment with different players being mentioned by agents and clubs.

We know that Tamas exceped 16K, we just dont know why we pulled the plug.

The highlighted part, that statement would apply to Loovens as well.

This last bit implies we have not spent money over the piece, we have done, just not on the defense. Hence the reason why we need defenders.

As I said earlier supermike I am not expecting us to go out and break the bank. What I am expecting is what has been promised, not to buy players that apease the fans but to go out and strengthen the team with better quality.

Do you think that´s what we have done so far?

They have know option but to spend ,they are in dire straits at the moment ,and after the week they had ,they had know option ,
Im not worried about them ,but celtic need a good quality left back ,and a centre half ,this is paramount if they want to continue winning leagues ,celtic should be hammering it home to the huns that celtic are the main team about ,there skint ,and celtic should be buying big to keep them down,
Never give they scum a sniff cos they will grab it ,if celtic do this right they should continue to dominate the scots game for years to come .
Rangers cant afford not to be in the champs league or europe full stop ,so theve not got that money this season, which celtic should capitalize on , time will tell

Could nae give a tinker's curse what the Huns do tbh.but anyone who doesn't think Davis,Thomson or Mendes would walk into our midfield is kidding themselves on...

Trying to improve the team on the cheap is the last thing we should be doing. We had the Huns on the rack after the centenary season, the Seville year and did nowt and now we have the same chance again ta put a distance between us and them and yet we start the penny pinching routine one more time..Same old same old,,I think this board have an acceptable level of success and are willing to gamble that by spending 3 or 4 million we will still have enough in the tank to limp over the finish line

Exactly we will limp over the finish line again but as long as the board make money and the rest of the so called Faithful continue to praise Strachan then its ok :38: Get Some quality in

Get quality in and do what? It will take a lot more than you think to conquer Europe so why spend millons just to win the SPL, when we ill do it anyway.
