Thread should be retitled Aaron Mooy's masterclass.

If the Saudis can beat Argentina then so can we.

Unlikely of course. They probably took the Saudis a tad lightly in the first game and won't make that mistake again. But as our lot keep saying, all football matches are 11 v 11 and anything can happen. Messi aside, at this level, the differences in quality aren't enormous. I took huge heart from how well the Oz defensive shape stayed tight against Denmark. At this level it's the teams that can't hold their shape under constant pressure that eventually crumble. If Oz can nick the first goal then just maybe the Argies will start to panic the way Denmark did.

Would not be at all surprised to see Extra Time and penalties, in which case... advantage Oz.

That Ozzie media are an odd bunch.

Three days ago all I was reading Mooy this Mooy that, Mooy masterclass, Mooy of the same, Mooy Mooy Mooy...

Then today I'm reading the Oz pundits want him dropped? Apparently he was pure mince last game?

Unfortunately for Australia I think the real Argentina have finally turned up. They could of and should of beaten Poland by 6 the other night. Now there's no chance Australia will play as bad as Poland did but its going to a tough ask beating Argentina that now have a bit of momentum

What a world cup he is having, if he could bring this form back to Celtic that would be brilliant but he will probably be knackered for the rest of the season knowing our luck.

To get past Argentina they need to offer more quality than they have been until now. They need Hrustic to be fit and playing from the start, which given the limited minutes he has been able to play so far I can't see, failing that they needed to have selected Rogic. McGree is not going to do it for them thats for sure.

In the absence of any quality creative force, Aaron needs to play out of his skin to hold their midfield together against Argentina.

Very likely correct, with the exception that the Oz team have developed incredible resilience.

We won't be pushovers, but Argentina have way more quality. You never know...

For * sake have you watched a single second of the Oz matches?

McGree has been one of our best and will be a major star for Oz over the next 8 years. Just about first picked after Souttar - such a shame he didnae sign for Celtic.

It's as if the media are full of * the world over; employed to create headlines and get people responding and arguing, rather than actually report what is happening.

Yes, I've watched them all, he has been mostly so so and certainly doesn't offer close to the kind of quality you will need to create chances against a side as strong as Argentina. Hrustic, if he is fit enough (and evidence suggests he's not) offers a much higher level of quality than McGree can provide.

That shouldn't be a controversial statement, yet here you are with your knickers in a bundle.

Have a look at the goals we scored. McGree figured strongly in the last two, but it's his defence that has been critical. Hrustic aint up to that. Not his game.

Still gutted Rogic isn't out there with them. A Rogic wonder goal at a World Cup would have been phenomenal

Hrustic is a dead ball specialist. Second half sub, worth a goal.

Goal against Tunisia was all Goodwin and Duke. Denmark goal an unmarked McGree provided a very good pass (under zero pressure) and he otherwise had a good game, his first good game of the tournament. The idea that Celtic were unfortunate to not sign him instead of O'Riley is howling at the moon talk.

Nope, McGree figured strongly in the Tunisia goal - received Duke's pass and sent it early to Goodwin. Excellent play, without which the goal wouldn't have happened.

As for Denmark, McGree had to burst out of defensive shape to get where he was fast enough to receive the pass.

You call it unmarked... I call it busting a gut to get into that position.

I didn't compare McGree with O'Riley - that's all you. Mind you, if you want to compare, O'Riley didn't get picked for the WC but his team got beaten by Australia in a match where McGree starred.

Howling at the moon am I?

It was only through not signing McGree we acquired O'Riley. Most Celtic fans would call that winning a watch, you called it unfortunate. So yes howling at the moon.

Denmark and Australia are two very different footballing nations, one has a stronger squad and massively under achived, one has St Mirren players in their squad and have massively over achieved (and good on them) it's a false equivalence as well you know.

He in no way figured strongly in the Tunisia goal, all the work to turn that pass into a goal was done by Duke and Goodwin.

Do you honestly think McGree is a better player than Hrustic? Because that was literally all that was said to set you off on your latest spiral.

Not long to go, they are going to need every one of their players playing at 100%, hope that at least some Argentinian players give 50% and that Arnold has his tactics spot on.

Delighted he’s having a good world cup and earning us some coin in the process.

They certainly could have used him at the end there when trying to find an equaliser. Outside of Tam, Boyle and Hrustic they don't have enough of a creative spark in those situations. Hrustic is a fantastic player when fit but he was nowhere near fit enough to contribute in a meaningful way this world cup.
