I used to see it that way too. But they are very different players. It's becoming clear to me that we need someone in midfield who can carry the ball and go past a player in the same way Rogic used to. O'Riley doesn't have that in his locker (yet), neither does Turnbull. McGregor can, but he's often deep and Hatate looks like he's only capable of it in flashes.

My priority has always been a DM but it doesn't look like we're getting one.

 

Barkley has the skills set to be converted into a deeper-lying central midfielder, he has showcased that side of his game before, when he was at Everton.
It would solve the DM issue we have.

But, if it did, I’ve no doubt Ange would get him to the level he has in him. And that level he’d be unreal for us, in this team. Will be just as ridiculous as Calmac and Jota.

The issue with this one will be two fold, he ain’t walking away from near £100k a week to play on £30k max. Also even if it was a loan with Chelsea paying the bulk of the wage it’s then a one year loan and Ange doesn’t like them with no option to buy.

Up here if his head was in it he would be some player. Don’t see it happening though.

I'd be steering well clear of this guy if they are looking to terminate his contract. If he is so bad they are considering a big loss to get rid and nobody is showing interest it does not sound good.

 

Didn't we terminate the contracts of Rogic and Bitton? They were under contract till 2023, just like Barkley. Just because Chelsea don't want him anymore, it doesn't necessarily mean he'd be a bad signing.

 

Yeah, but they were long-serving players who went with all the good wishes of the club and the fans. The emotion on that last day was amazing to see.

This is a guy on how much per week, who hasn't been getting a game. I know they have silly money down there, but that is quite the loss, plus no one is putting in bids for him?
