as you all know from 1st April gas and leccy will be going up by 54%, but to soften the blow those with pre paid (card top up meters) meters can keep the price rise back for a wee bit longer.
if you can afford it, load up your gas and leccy meters before the rise and you will keep the lower rate tariff.
now the max limit on the leccy is around £250 and I think the gas has no limit (not 100% about this, so check your meter)
now what you have to remember is this, once you load as much as you can afford and once April 1st comes, don't put any money into your card until your credit runs down to the last penny, because as soon as you put your card into the meter after 1st April the credit you have in the meter will automatically be charged at the new rate, so don't put any credit into your meter until your sitting at a couple of pence.
on the plus side, if for any reason the price drops below the rate at the moment all you need to do is stick a couple of quid into the meter and the new rate will automatically be changed.

those of you you with 'smart' pre paid meters can't do this sadly, but those with ordinary pre paid meters are o.k
this has all been confirmed by OFGEM and also been confirmed by all the energy suppliers.

I'm £800 per year for gas and leccy, so I'm loading up a years worth if I can.

Gas, electricity and petrol increases are bad on their own. It'll add cost to just about everything and push more people into poverty. The government need to do something.

Some people I know in the west of Ireland are really starting to struggle. Massive rents here all over Ireland, the cost of living rising by the week and now this with the fuel. It's bonkers. The rise in building materials is the same. Have never seen anything like it but with all this happening, there's definitely going to be a big bang! It's shapping up for a recession/depression like we haven't seen in a long time.

BRILLIANT, I won’t be able to top up much but will take advantage of this.
During shielding/lockdown I struggled with topping up my gas, got into arrears and it meant for every £10 I put on meter B. Gas took £8 leaving me with £2 for heating/cooking, life is getting more brutal

The UAE have just upped oil production and already a 17% drop in price and 30% drop on gas overnight. Hopefully keep it up because my local station diesel just hit £1.99... I now drive to asda :56:

Its all connected. Fuel goes up, food goes up. Tractors take diesel to farm your stuff. Transporting it. All going up. The biggest help we could get to stop this new onslaught of absoloute * is to have an emergency duty cut. Keep it at 1.50 max. As the price drops the duty can go on but as it goes above 1.50 it comes off. Cant allow £2 a litre. Along with the gas prices we'll all be eating tins of beans. No the nice heinze kind either. Those cheap * own brand ones that are hard n no sausages in. Why even bother with beans if you can't have those we sausages :fear:

Have to admit I do worry this could hit harder than the crash of 2008.

The hangover of the pandemic, brexit for us uk residents. Cost of invasion in Ukraine. Tax hikes of National insurance.

It looks like it's getting ready to burst.
