Just watched the game (well most of it).

They were a better team last week, and they were again tonight. Bigger, faster, stronger, more comfortable with the ball. Looked well drilled/organised too.

Bit surprised at the team that ran out; would love to know how Ange was playing it (no doubt with an eye to the weekend, perhaps banking on an early goal and going from there etc).

Bitton poor first half (2-3 turnovers in first 10mins I think). Disappointing; I think he's been good this season.

O'Riley and Rogic not at the races; wonder what's up with Rogic, shadow of the guy who has been running around most of this season.

I like Maeda up top; unimpressed by his general passing and touch (same for Abada really).

    Bring on the weekend!

Agree re Calmac, he stuffed up the last one he took by rushing it, pumped with adrenalin.

CCV is strong and calm, powerful kick on him, would rip the net, goalie could not react in time.

Overreaction? No. A side who rode their luck? Definitely no. They were streets ahead of us home and away. Not as bad as it seems? Constant failure and embarrassment(with the odd exception) in European competition for Heaven knows how long now. Regularly out-thought, out-fought and out-classed, not by the great European sides of the day but often by small to medium-sized clubs with a fraction of our own wealth and resources. Celtic Park used to be one of the most feared grounds in Football where clubs like AC Milan, Barcelona and Manchester United were beaten on a regular basis. Not any more. I don't expect us to be swatting European teams aside or challenging for the trophies every year but we should be doing better than we are. Celtic has had many games in the various European competitions, some it won, some it didn't but it was never really humiliated until recent years when humiliation has occurred with alarming regularity. That's all I ask personally, I can deal with losses just don't embarrass us. Failure has become our normal in Europe unfortunately and that is not an overreaction it is a fact.

I watched that last night and honestly don't understand what our plan was or what we expected to get out of the game.

The lineup was very interesting to start with.
To the point that it was almost entirely made up of what would be our rotation 11. Aside from Rogic and Hart

    Ralston - josip
    Welsh - CCV
    Starfelt - Julien
Scales - any other new left back
    Bitton - McGregor
    O'Reily - Hatate
    Forrest - Abada
    Giakoumakis - Kyogo
    Maeda - Jota

On paper when you look at that, you actually think the strength in depth is not bad. But then you realise that as a collective, that's not an ideal 11 compared to what is deemed out starting 11 that would provide much much more pace, tempo, drive, everything the manager is basically installing in this squad this season.

We stood off them far too much, a sign of the instructions or just the sign of this being a second string team from us?

Honestly, the best answer I can get for this is two things.

    1. We played it as a training exercise knowing the chances are we was out of it, predominantly playing not to get injured and with an eye on the weekend.

    2. The manager, knowing we was out of the tie, used it to give the backup guys a last chance to prove something and also to highlight to the board (which he's been vocal about already this season), that the depth is not actually there.
Remove our starting 11 and the quality in the next 11 is shocking as a collective.

I've no issue with pretty much any player that started last night, but they can't all collectively be tossed together and expected to perform the same way that our starting 11 does.

    And surely Ange knows this.
So what was the point of it last night?

I'm shocked at how bad we were last night. The build up to the game felt as if we were resigned to going out.

The lack of effort was appalling. The players getting a start should be trying hard to get into the team. They played as if they couldn't give a *. That's not acceptable.

There's always room for improvement on the quality of player. It was the attitude that was the worst thing for me last night.

I can take losing when the players have tried their best. I found that performance last night unacceptable.

Since the sevco game work rate has dropped a notch. Hopefully we pick it up again at the weekend.

I can't remember over 2 legs, seeing a celtic side look so unsure about how to approach a game or another sides way of playing.

Say what you want about the league being more important etc, for me that's just an excuse people are using to take their minds off how abysmal we were there. Before the game it was all "we can go far in this" "good chance to actually progress in knockout football" and even the manager was coming across like that.

So I'm not buying that every person now saying ahhh it's a diddy cup anyway, really feels that way. We should as celtic, be aiming to at the minimum compete in the league and Europe (against that standard of side) without having to worry about resting players.

To me it's concerning, no matter the stage of the rebuild, how lost Postecoglou appeared to be against their coach. I can't remember even a sustained 10 min spell of pressure over 180 mins of football from us. But did we change anything? Nope. Just kept going the same way, creating nothing and giving the ball away. No sign of the "we don't stop" patter.

The scary thing is I don't even think they had to try that hard and they've won that tie 5-1...players smiling and ripping the *, doing a huddle after HT at CP after going 2-0 up. Cmon to *.

Honestly anyone who can just forget that result and performance immediately, give me some of what you're having. Concerning. And I hope he learns.

If anything, barring the Hun game, the start to this year has shown there's a * of a lot improvement still needed. Which of course is natural, but the attitude still needs to be there. And for me it wasn't last night.

Didn't give a * about the game last week and I cared a great deal less last night. However, the performance in the first half was alarming. I don't care if 6 or 7 of the boys were out resting, the strange thing is he brought 2 of them on in the second half when the game and tie were effectively dead. What's he * playing at? What if McGregor and Abada get injured last night in that second half? Shocking substitutions and a shocking first half display. Huge improvement needed for Sunday. If we win on Sunday, rotating the team was justified but momentum is a big thing in football.

I slagged off Rodgers before the draw for his comments about the competition and I think our whole club treated the competition poorly aswell so short sighted

Ajax are worse then the Huns:37:. No way Knutsen is going there. Lucky for us (Bodo Glimt) he just extended his contract until 2024.

Thank you guys was a pleasure reading here :)
a half year ago I was sad because you knocked out AZ of the Europa league and now the result is the other way round. Offcourse I allready knew Bodo Glimt is far better then AZ this year. But because some key players left + we didnt play for 2 months I thought Celtic was the favorite. Good luck in the competition, Im sure you will do better after this. I will keep following Celtic because I like the club and the fans.

I'd keep tabs on their manager.

No doubt he's realistically going to end up at a real decent European outfit but if he isn't and we need a new guy....get him in.

To be honest I am glad we are out as I have no interest in the tournament. The conference league isn't really Europe in my opinion and we should be 100 per cent focused on winning the league. I was actually rather pleased that we were resting players when I seen the line up last night.
