Stuart Armstrong

Discussion in 'Ex Players' started by Xavier Woods, Feb 2, 2015.

  1. He definitely was for a good period, I just thought his form tailed off and I always got the impression he didn’t like Celtic Football Club.

  2. He definitely wanted to go. Reminds me of Christie just now. Think he was mostly injured before he left, I wasn’t too bothered about it but I also wasn’t glad to see the back of him.

  3. Yeah that pretty much sums up my feelings.

  4. I’ll never forgive him for losing the ball for England’s equaliser to Scotland and I’m Irish with absolutely not one bit of Scottish in me.

  5. I thought mentally and just that lack of consistent quality would show up but it hasn't..

He had a very good spell for us but in Europe I thought he was found out a bit..

    He's a good player..

  6. Think European football and English football is very, very different. You can be decent down there by running a lot and being able to cross a ball.

  7. Aye we sometimes give it too much credit. It's good but it isn't outrageous..

McGinn and Armstrong are showing that, although they do have a bit of quality in their own right..

Because you tend to think of Liverpool and Man City, not Newcastle vs Brighton or something.

The top 6/7 teams can be a different story, but the rest of them sheer grit can see you through.

Apparently he's being allowed to leave Southampton.

    Wouldn’t get near our team

Was a passenger at the Euros aswell

  10. He was absolutely stinking at the Euros. I liked Armstrong when he was at Celtic but we only really got one good season out of him

My one memory was i think Robertson was taking a throw in and Armstrong walked away with his back turned like a * bag not wanting the ball

Strange one because he is a fan’s favourite down there and has put in some great performances. He suited himself when he was with us and run down his deal and stalled. Maybe acting a * at Southampton.

  13. Just checked Southampton's forum. I don't think they'd be happy if he was allowed to leave.

  14. Wouldn't get near our team? Come on :giggle1:

His energy and pressing would work well in Ange's system..

He has his faults. Can be ropey with his first touch, passing and I have seen him hide...but he'd be a big player here..

No that he'll come here anyway..

Who would you drop for him?

  16. 100% right. The evidence is overwhelming when you consider the players who can earn a living down there but get schooled up here.

Some people would call it a criticism but I wouldn't even go that far. It's just different and that's what's suited for the job down there.

An interesting discussion is how their game got to be like that. For me it's the 'just happy to be in the prem' attitude of 75% of the clubs.

  17. He’ll get another EPL team. Think Burnley have been mentioned.

I would take him back if the wages were decent.

  18. It isn’t about dropping but he could easily play instead of Rogic for example..

  19. I would definitely take him back with the right deal to be honest. He would be well suited to Ange's system.

We don't play a rigid 11 every game of the season. He would have a significant role in the squad.

For the record, I doubt there's any chance he will be back here.
