Don't think there was any concrete interest from us. Think folk were just putting 2 and 2 together with the city link.

And why wouldn't they just sell now, instead of claiming it is a loan, and structure the payments for the end of the season? And what is to stop Schalke saying they don't want to take up the option at the end of the season and then just taking him on a free anyway? Or if it's the end of his contract the player is free to talk to other clubs in January, as he may not fancy carrying on in Germany.

It just doesn't make any kind of business sense to do it that way, there is too much risk involved, when they can just sell him outright now, unless he has more than a year on his contract and they know they will get him back if it falls through.

Disappointing. Think he could have been a player for us. Honestly think the board have settled for our CBs being Starfelt, Welsh, Dame and Julien. Cover provided at FB by Scales and Juaranovic.

I really wanted this guy but at the same time, there was never any concrete interest. Same as Henry, great in theory but it seems like a lot of speculation and no real substance

I wonder what the loan fee is on top of the agreed price.

For me he's a left back that can play centre half rather than say an urhoghide who is a centre back who can play right back. I think we will be expecting a lot to think he can have an immediate impact at either position. Although I hope he's sensational and I'm very wrong. Anytime I watched him in the Ireland u21 team that would have featured (O'Connor/O'Shea/Masterson/molumby/Connolly/Parrott/ idah etc) I saw him as the weakest link, but maybe that was unfair as he was staying put with UCD while the rest of the team were making waves with English clubs. Either way in fairness to him he seems to have really kicked on dramatically as a footballer in last year or so.

I thought he was in the last year of his contract? So why would you loan him for a year then pay 5 million..?

Anyway.. would of liked this one but not sure there was any real interest from us

Man City have done this kind of thing before. They normally get them to sign an extension for 1 more year before agreeing the loan.

But why would he sign? Like Christie and Eddy surely he'd let his contract run down and he'd have much better options.. doesn't make sense.. * hate Citeh..

He is out of contract next season, they would be stupid to offer them a buy out clause.

I know it's mental but it does happen. Not sure why any player would sign the additional year.

Maybe a year security wage wise if he doesn't get an offer.. you'd imagine his fella will have no problem

At the end of the day anything could happen though, say he gets a bad injury first couple of games?

To me that’s why Edouard is playing a risky game if his wage demands are true and he’s running down his deal. I doubt a decent team will sign Edouard next season if he doesn’t hit previous form even on a free and certainly not for the money he’s looking for.

More gutted about Davies, but the fact that we’ve mucked about and lost out on both is textbook board.

    Did we lose out?

If we wanted him, we'd have got him over a second tier German side..

Ange said thing's were taking longer as he was turning down name's brought forward to him, only wanting the best on offer..

Didn’t mean ‘lost’ in that sense; more like the fans have lost out because of the board not trying (or at least not trying hard enough).

I suppose ‘missed out’ is closer to what I actually meant.
