I'd have no issue with that as a back pairing option/selection. Honestly would be neither here nor there if Bitton left.

However, considering Starfelt is just in the door, he is gonna need to get his own head sorted and in the zone, let alone be mentoring Welsh through this as well.
Say what we want about Bitton, but he shouldn't be requiring additional support from his fellow CB, beyond what is normal.

It makes sense to me to have Bitton start today with Starfelt.
Give it a week for Starfelt and Welsh to train together, and maybe we see that next week - but ideally it is Julien, Starfelt, A.Nother, then Welsh.

He come on as Bittons replacement, then played the friendly then played the game in Denmark, that’s a lot of football for an 18 year old on both the legs and mentally.

 

Not arguing which is better, or more deserving of game time - but considering the new guy has been here barely 24hrs, it would be madness to throw him in without having someone else who is at least past the needing a mentor on the pitch.
Not saying Bitton is better than Welsh, but Bitton SHOULD be able to be left to do his own job, in line with Starfelt. Welsh is needing someone alongside him to coach him through stuff.

This isn't just about which is better defender or which has more Celtic appearances last season, it is about who is capable/ready to play alongside a completely new player - Bitton is the safer option here, assuming he doesn't do something stupid, like get sent off.

You’ve just made that up fella, no ones said they WANT Bitton to start over Welsh, circumstances on the amount of game time and pressure the young lads have had in a week are a decisive factor. I’d pick Welsh over Bitton all day but a bit of common sense says give the lad a rest.
