    Hey guys

Just listened to the Twenty Minute Tims classic game podcast - the ill-fated 2-3 Porto UEFA cup final ... and wanted to start a thread asking how you guys felt before during and immediately after that game.

I won’t deal with any of that, only the end and what happened...

I only remember Henrik’s 2 world class headers, screaming at Bobo Balde, then that killer goal 5 from the end of ET ... I just walked out my family home, in floods of tears. We’d just moved to south east London. So I decided in my misery to just walk to the cinema in the next town, buy a ticket for any movie that was playing and have a more private cry - a sobbing session - while it was playing.

Got to the * cinema. Driving rain the whole way there, wet as *, I didn’t even notice the rain - tears smeared in with the rain. Went inside.

Encounter at the cinema ticket desk.

“Can I have a ticket to any film please”

    “Sorry. No more films tonight”

    I blinked.

Walked out back into the rain

    Walked all the way home

Got home went to bed face down fully clothed and cried myself to sleep.

    Still not over it

    How about you?

Also, you’re still not over it? It was 18 years ago ffs.

I was gutted but immensely proud of the team and fans. Fans who actually had reason to be angry but yet still managed to behave and get plaudits from all who witnessed our fair play and openness and inclusivity.

Henke did not deserve to be on the losing side. An absolute giant on the night. Think it was his second goal he seemed to defy the laws of physics with how long he hung in the air.

Funnily enough i watched all the games again last week and was refreshing to see how well organised we where. That was one * of a team that had it all tbh.

Desmond saying the current crop are better was surely a joke :56:that team would of put 8 past this one.

Loads of memories, I was 9 & 10 years old during the Seville run, I remember being on the telephone to my mate Tony from school for the entire 90+ mins of the Blackburn & Liverpool away games, games were on channel 5 I think and I was watching each game up in my parents bedroom whilst everyone else was downstairs watching it cause I was too shy to be on the phone to my mate in front of everyone, TV couldn't have been more than 14" lol, really small TV but just remember the goals going in with me and my mate jumping around the room screaming in celebration on the phone to each other, pure buzzing and I actually looked forward to going to school the next day to talk all about it

Also remember Blackburn at home with it being Halloween because me and my cousins were all dressed up in our costumes going round the doors for sweets early that night with the parents making sure we got back for the game in time, (uncle & auntie lived in that fancy estate in Motherwell at the time, Dalziel Park, was class going for sweets around all those houses cause everyone was minted and used to give you huge bags of sweets at each door haha), all watched it in the living room and that last minute winner from Henrik had me running all over the living room feeling like I was flying

Then on the night of Seville my dad and uncle were away to the game so that left me, my mum & sister watching the game with my auntie & two cousins, remember the despair followed by the joy at equalizing, then the despair again followed by the joy of equalizing again, sadly ended in disappointment was definitely crying that night.

I didn't appreciate that team enough though being too young at the time, just thought this would always be normal Celtic having these amazing players all the time that would go far in Europe, still the best team in my lifetime and probably always will be.

The saddest thing about that night apart from losing the game was how great Larsson was that night but still ended up on the losing team. When he scored the second equalising goal I remember thinking this guy really is a *.

The aftermath out there was horrible man at full time. Sickening..

The thing that will always haunt me is a big group we were with out there all chanced tickets and paid at the turnstiles. I stayed with my da, uncle etc in some * wee banged out bar in a backstreet near the centre of Seville when I was gonna go as well..

Probably never get that chance again..

Nice idea, thanks for starting it off.

I was at the game, paid £500 for a ticket, taking the view that these games come along once every 30/40 years for a club like ours (it shouldn't be so seldom, but thats another story). Flew to Alicante via Cardiff and hired a car to drive to Seville. Drove past about 30 fans who had hired mopeds to get to Seville from Alicante, thats Glasgow to London at 30 mph in 35 degrees heat, so you can imagine the state they were in when they got there. They were glowing pink 20 miles outside Alicante with 380 miles to go.

Night before game was awesome, just pure joy and an amazing buzz. I don't do the plastic Paddy pubs abroad thing, so avoided that, I like Irish pubs, but only when they are actually in Ireland.

Day off the game. mega anticipation, lots of drinking and sing songs, with the nagging dark thought at the back of my mind that the conditions would harm our chances and help Portos.

Made way to game in full Celtic regalia, to find that my £500 ticket was for the..........Porto end. *. Police escorted me out and made way to press section, kindly Portugese journalist took pity on me and said 'sit here', 1 spare seat next to him in press box. Ya dancer, thank you *. He said to me early on in game, 'Balde could lose this for you, Porto are going to target him'

Big regret? Drank way too much during the day and don't remember much of first half, other than they scored near the end of it.

I remember Larssons headers, both crosses from Agathe I think. When we got it to 2-2 I thought we were going to win, a goal in the 10 mins after 2-2 Porto would have folded; it didn't come.

I was crushed for months afterwards, and didn't go to mass in that period as I was angry at * for letting those cheating * win, with their feral, pick pocketting cunty fans. Those epic wins along the way to fall at the final hurdle was just so excruciatingly bitter. Having got that far I wanted to win, as it was clear then that it was going to be harder and harder for clubs like ours to compete in Europe due to the Sky hegemony. Never watched it again. This was THE chance for our generation of Celtic fans. My dad's generation had Lisbon and Milan, when we were kings, we never had that and never will.

I was 30 at Seville and horrifyingly in my late 40s now. I won't see Celtic win a European tournament in my lifetime, I hope that some of the younger posters on here do.
