There's also Laurence Gaughan who was really rated by Benitez back when he was playing for Liverpool but he was allowed go because he had his heart set on coming here.

Richard Towell, Paul Skinner, Graham Carey and Paul Cahillaneare also Irish in our Reserve team.

Richie Towell is a 16 year old midfielder from Crumlin in Dublin who has already started and scored for the Reserves.Definitley one to keep and eye on.

For me the stand out is Sheridan, a real natural talent. If he statys clear of injury I could see him get a good few games this year although he is very young. I am yet to be convinced about O'Dea, he has good qualities but he has weaknessess too - I think he could go either way. Is the boy Kevin Cawley Irish? He looks a good wee buzz bomb sort of player. There are also the two Scotttish guys who have chosen to play for ROI through the granny rule. Aidinho hardly needs discussion. O'Brien IMO is a pretty decent player but he has no chance of a game because of Aidan, Naka and wee Shaun if the rumours about him at CP this week are right. To me he could do well for any SPL team outside the OF but doesnt have enough for us.

Pace and strength are two attributes that give you a great chance in succeeding in the modern game. Many times a player can only have one of these i.e JVoH has strength but no pace and Kenny Miller has pace but no strength.
Sheridan has both these qualities and that gives him a great chance.Samaras also has these two attributes and that was a major reason why I wanted us to sign him.Samaras, and Sheridan look to be a great mixture of the two traditional types of striker.Of course it's no guarantee for success,Craig Beattie had these attributes but he had a poor first touch and no balance.Injuries obviously also played a big part.

    Kevin Cawley is Scottish BTW.
