    GABRIEL TAMAS is hopeful he can become Celtic's next big signing later today. But the Parkhead club warn there is still a long way to go if they are to land their man.
    The Auxerre central defender reckons his meeting with Peter Lawwell in Paris yesterday has paved the away for his £3.5million move to go ahead.
    The clubs have already established the terms of the transfer, and negotiations to establish the Romanian internationalist's personal terms appear to have begun well.
    Nothing has been finalised, however, as there is still a gap between what Tamas would like and what Celtic are prepared to offer.

    The player wants a substantial increase on the £350,000-per-year basic he currently earns with the French club. But Celtic's policy is to make their contracts heavily performance and result-related.
    Although Lawwell has flown back from France, the talks are on-going.
    Though good progress has been made, the Parkhead club refuse to take anything for granted, not least because of the complexity of the structure behind Tamas's representation by several agents.
    The club will be encouraged, however, by the fact the 24-year-old is confident the wage issue can be resolved to allow a deal to be concluded very soon

    there isn't alot of players on more than £18k a week at our club. exceptions being Boruc, Balde, Gravesen, Brown, and now McDonald and McGeady (probably Nakamura).

    Lawwell will have a gut instinct on how far he can push Tamas wage demands down. i have every faith he knows where that boundary is. if Lawwell feels he is being held to ransom, he will walk from the table. we have other options and don't need to pay over the odds.

    i think we will know the outcome of this deal by Tuesday morning at the latest.

    Auxerre have confirmed he is now in talks with Celtic F.C. On the 17th it was reported Celtic are on the verge of signing Tanas after he agreed personal terms with the scottish champions. Celtic will present him tommorow at Celtic Park subject to his Medical.

    yeh just give the man what he wants and hold us to ransom and cost u more money when awell firmly believes that he can knock his wages and save us money. if he thinks he is worth the wages and he can't bring him dow i am sure he will give him the wage

    totaly agree m8 , you just dont get someone signed no matter the price , you have to get a deal that makes good for all .peter lawell,AKA , SSM is well in control of this deal , if it doesnt happen then he will have some one else .in other words DONT PANIC SSM IS ON THE BALL:50::celt_2:

    hopefully its going all good mate get tamas up and the usual PR pics of the new bhoy at CP and get him involved in the friendlies :celt_2:

    the lee naylor thing needs to be sorted too, he obviously wants to go home, and i would welcome a change for him, im sure we have our men on the job, although sunderland have stopped intrest in naylor im sure theres others intrested, things are looking good!
