We are capable of getting to the last 8 and what an achivment that would be think if wgs gets the signings right we will have a good chance for last 8.

Last 8 has to be in our sights this year as celtic supporters were always looking for progress and surely this summer the board must give strachan the money to drive for a last 8 place in the champs league

Dont you think we HAVE been getting a lot of luck already?
I mean if Donatti's deflected last minute goal had not went in, we would have finished BOTTOM of that group last year.
& if just 1 of those other late goals didnt go in we wouldnt have reached the last 16.
    .
We need quality players, not luck...we already make our own.
To reach the last 8, then we probabaly need to WIN our section.....Achievable with 1 new superstar midfielder & 1 more quality srtiker for the squad.

Realistically, to get to tha last 8, our only chance is if one of the pot one teams has a disaster in their group. Either in our group allowing us to win the group and therefore draw a second place team. Or a top seed to play poorly in another group and allow a pot two team to win the group and then we finish second and draw that team.

Having said that some pot two teams from last year were Roma, Valencia, Seville and Lyon last year and to be honest I wouldn't fancy our chances vs any of those either.

I hope I'm wrong(obviously) but I feel that we will be very lucky ever to get by the last 16. Also considering that we are a pot three team this year. depending on the draw we will do well even to get to the last 16 this year.

Eliminated by A.C. Milan and then Barcelona in the last two years - to seriously compete with these teams would take 5 or 6 £15 - £20 million players at the very minimum.

thats not nessacerily true look at ajax and porto a few years ago. with luck, drive and optimism anyone can progress far in the CL. the away games are what we need to work on imo. last years team away against barca with naka in the hole worked well with a few deficiences. robson in for donati, mizuno if he plays well on the right and hinkel at RB and that should be a decent team for 60 mins to keep it tight then maybe bring on some from the bench. we should remember that barca they had their best games of the season against us and milan only beat us in extra time when we had injuries to jvoh and naka went off just before we got a free kick in his range. these little things can make all the difference.

Robson had a good end to the SPL season but can u really see Robson / Hartley running the show in the middle at nou camp, old trafford, san siro etc?

    Come on!

No one would like that to be proved wrong more than me but theirs just no way.

If we're serious about going further in the Champions League we need to pick up points away from home and need strong, technically gifted and tactically aware people in the middle who can run a game and take the pressure off the defence, thats just not going to happen with those two in the middle.

totally agree. All things being equal we need to improve ALLOT to even expect to make the last 16 again because we cant expect to get the kind of luck we got last year again...I think every goal we scored was either a deflection or defensive error. And I agree - progress for us would be an improvement in away form, not whether we make the last 8 or not. We need that monkey off our back if we're gonna move forward in future years.

I never even mentioned Hartleys name all im saying is imo Robson is EVERYTHING a Celtic player needs to be and more. What team does go to those 3 stadiums and their midfields run the show?

Time will tell as always but i was proved right in being the vocal one shouting from the rafters for his signing amongst heavy criticism to the contrary and i believe he has all the tools to be a major player in our Champions League campaign. In fact i think he's the type of guy that will be absolutely creaming at the prospect of mixing it with the absolute best.

I think if we get to the last 8, it would be an amazing achievement, anything further than that is fantasy. The financial imbalance in Europe dictates that English, Spanish, Italian, and possibly German teams will properly compete for the trophy. There's the odd freak exception though.

Last 16 would do me and then see were that gets us, we have only made it into the last 16 the last 2 years not 10, lets not get ahead of ourselfs. But if we do get into the last 16 again we should have a team worthy of getting close to the 1/4 finals

Yea, last 16 is still a great achievement and bowing out there again wouldnt be a failure. Our performances should be better this season though

We have to shore up at the back, our defense gets caught out way too much in CL by much quicker teams. Gary Caldwell and Lee Naylor are fine SPL players and maybe even Prem but at times they get outclassed in Champions League.

We have come out of the group as a #3 seed last year and maybe the year before if I'm not mistaken. Has Scotland's coefficient gone up enough in the past year to get us a #2 seed in the group. SPL teams have gotten to the final 16 three years running, Rangers went to the Uefa cup final last year and the national team has moved up in the FIFA rankings. I really don't know how it is calculated.

That said, if we get an easier draw (on paper) in the group stage, improve our away form, win the group and a little luck in the draw once in the final 16 and I think the Final 8 is not inconceivable.

what annoys me with celtic especially in the champs league when you cant afford mistakes is ,if the oppsition have a corner or freekick outside our box ,when the ball gets cleares theres a wee space thats never covered ,just outside the box ,about 10-15yards and not a celtic player to be seen ,drives me up the wall ,watch the next time ,youll know better when on the tele

I think we should aim for at least 1 away win in the champs league this season

I think we were lucky to get in the last 16 last year to be honest, I went to the game at Barcelona and we were hopelessly outclassed. The improvement needed to punch our way into the last eight is pretty vast, we'll need some luck and a good draw....

    possible last eight:

Barcelona, Man u, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, CELTIC?

be honest with yerselves, who's the odd one out there? call me a negative * if you like but we'll be very lucky to end up in the last 8. I really * hope we do mind and I'm looking forward to some more euro trips with the bhoys.....

They might not all get there

Fenerbache and Shalke got there this year and we'd beat them over 2 legs imo

If we can improve away from home, we could easily make last 8 . As especially in last 16 onwards an away goal + our home form would be priceless. Wether we will or not.
