Erik Sviatchenko is back on the £1.5 million transfer radar of FC Copenhagen.

The Danish giants have raked in £4 million on the sale of superkid Benjamin Verbic to Dynamo Kiev and now have substantial funds available to make a fresh move for the out-of-favour centre back.

Sviatchenko is set to leave Parkhead next month after the signing of German Marvin Compper and the emergence of Norwegian kid Kristoffer Ajer pushed him further down the defensive pecking order.

The 26-year-old is set to have an option of returning to his homeland.

FC Copenhagen boss Stale Solbakken wanted Sviatchenko at the beginning of the season but, despite coming close to an agreement, no deal materialised before the close of the transfer window with failure to reach the group stages of the Champions League hitting transfer funds.

However, the manager has kept tabs on the situation and Celtic’s willingness to sell and the financial situation improving at the Copenhagen outfit, the deal is likely to be revived.

The Danes have made it through to the group stages of the Europa League and a last 32 tie against Atletico Madrid.

In addition, Copenhagen have landed a hefty windfall from the sale of star playmaker Verbic to the Ukraine giants.

Copenhagen are in sixth spot in the Superliga and Solbakken is searching for a leader to boost the group for the resumption of the campaign in February.

Sviatchenko hasn’t played for Celtic since being forced off in the Champions League qualifier against Rosenborg in August and is now fifth choice behind Dedryck Boyata, Jozo Simunovic, Ajer and Compper.

Manager Brendan Rodgers won’t stand in the defender’s way after he signed for Ronny Deila two years ago from FC Midtjylland.

Sviatchenko is set to have other options during the window, but a door to his homeland remains open.

I'll be pleased if we manage to sell him and according to the press, we paid £1.5m for him, so recouping that is decent business for a guy who hasn't featured. I don't dislike him as a person or as a player, but he's not going to improve us in Europe, which is what I hope we're aiming for.

I also hope that this means we might bring in another CB.

While big Eric is now surplus to requirements, I'll always remember him very fondly.

In the latter half of the Deila's second season when things just felt flat as *, he was one of the highlights that actually got me excited about the team.

He also calmed everything down when he came off the bench in Be'er Sheva, its ashame he never pushed on.

I hope he has a very successful career in Denmark or wherever he goes.

ERIK SVIATCHENKO has confirmed he’s been told he’s free to leave Celtic this month.

The 26-year-old Danish international signed for the Hoops in a £1.5million deal two years ago, but has fallen out of the first team picture under Brendan Rodgers.

He’s been strongly linked with a return to his homeland, with FC Copenhagen looking at the former FC Midtjylland player.

And he’s revealed he’s hoping to leave the champions this month, with several clubs in different countries showing interest.

Sviatchenko said: “The manager has told me to find a new club.

“There have been clubs from several leagues who have contacted my agent. These are attractive clubs, so I’m looking forward to my future with optimism.

“My transfer value, of course, falls the less I play, but my qualities as a player don’t get worse – on the contrary.

“I feel I’ve developed a lot and I’m a far better player now than when I came to Scottish football.

“I have been happy with my stay in Celtic and Scotland, but I’m also pleased to be able to go to another club.

“I need to play regularly because I want to still have a chance of playing at the World Cup Finals in Russia.

“I accept it’s a small chance, but it can’t be ruled out that some of the established national team defenders get injured.”

Sviatchenko, who has five Denmark caps, made 62 appearances for the Hoops.

What a contradictory statement! He will be sold for the value celtic deem acceptable, really liked Erik when he signed but over the last year since Boyata replaced him he has turned into a greeting faced *, better rid!

We apparently knocked back almost £3m in the summer will be staggered if we can get near that now.

Good luck Erik where ever you go! Would much rather see you in the team than Boyata at moment!

Not sure we will, he hasn’t played much since the summer so his stock will have decreased.

Last year he was my number one CB, and now he's leaving. Another player simply frozen out without any explanation, just like Gamboa.

He was * against Linfield, we all saw that, but this isn't Real Madrid to drop players forever after one game because you have 30 million worth replacement on your bench.

I wish him all the best in his future.

Enjoyed the guy when he arrived, thought he was gonna be great. Still do like him, never recovered from his holocaust at the bigotdome.

Can see him ending up at Sunderland.

I wish him all the very best at his new club. Still believes in himself and will do a job for his new team. £1.5m would be the fee I expect.
