    * I wish I never voted now. I love Broony and for sure we'd never have gone 68 games without him above all players but Mcstay was near enough World Class, so graceful on the pitch and blessed with sublime skill and vision.
You're right though, Broony is totally different and he's hardly lacking skill, is much more of a fearless warrior on the pitch and is very inspirational as he's got a brilliant sense of humour off the pitch.
I think they would've made great team mates, Broony breaking up attacks and striding forward with confidence then letting McStay have it in the opposition half to work his magic setting up runners with perfectly weighted passes.
McStay would be offered a huge deal from Barca today.

You do to almost single handedly turn certain defeat into a win in 12 minutes.
One of the all time greatest substitutions.

Would a better comparison have been Peter Grant and Broony?

I think Broony over Grant and McStay over Lambert.
But it's quite easy to see folk thinking the opposite.
    Bonner vs Boruc?
I find that quite difficult. Packy was something special but mad Boruc on top form was brilliant.
Who is our best ever keeper?

Can anyone give a decent answer to this? I'm intrigued myself.

I'm sure he went to Australia and was happy to get out the limelight. Don't think there was any issue with the club. Just quite a shy person.

It should be Scott Brown v Peter Grant, Paul lambert or Neil Lennon. McStay was box to box and entirely different. They would compliment each other. Armstrong should study his game!

I'm too young to comment on McStay's ability, other than what I can now see from highlights videos. I know I watched him loads of times, but he retired when I was 8.

The first thing that struck me is that they're different types of midfielders. McStay is more like Petrov, to me.

McStay was a better attacker, but Broony is a better ball winner and leader. Teams need both.

Sorry mate but I completely disagree. Whilst I like Brown, McStay was head and shoulders above. Not only did he have the skill, vision, energy and ability to score goals regularly, he was hard as nails in the tackle.

McStay also played in a good Scotland team at major tournaments where he looked superb. Without trying to bring Brown down, Brown wouldn't have got into that Scotland team/squad IMO.

McStay all day long. I was fortunate enough to be at most games home and away in the centenary season and watched some incredible displays from the Maestro as he drove the team on to a wonderful Double against the odds competing with the newly cash rich Deadco. He was also one of the few shining lights in the dark era of the late 80s and early 90s when Deadco stranglehold on Scottish football tightened. Love Broony though.....

McStay all day every day. The finest passer of the ball Scotland has ever produced. He had everything. I wish he were playing for us now - we would be formidable with him pulling the strings in the centre of the park.

It’s a game of opinions, I think McStay is a mythical creature in some fans eyes.

I was only young but I remember the apathy which surrounded the Celtic side he played in through the 90’s.

Brown appears to be under rated by many going by this thread. Look at his Champions League stats, he isn’t just a snaring leader these days he’s a metronome.

Paul McStay is one of my favourite ever players I never got to see play live, he's a bit before my time. Still some of the footage I've seen is unreal. Brown is definitely the player that holds us together and you see what he brings to the team when he isn't playing. Tough one.

I reckon a Brown vs Lennon poll would be interesting.

Called "the Maestro" - and for very good reason...the guy was an absolutley sublime footballer. Those years growing up in the 80's and 90's he was the one true beacon of quality for a number of years - the player that kept us playing a certain level of football - the player that inspired a generation of young celtic fans. He made you feel proud to be a Tim becasue he was that good. His passing was unreal, his control, his postioning, the quality of goals he scored - he gave an absolute masterclass nearly every time he played.

I totally respect Browns contribution to the club and rate him very highly as a footballer - no doubt - but not a patch on the Maestro

I wouldn't even have him above Lambert never mind Bobby Murdoch.

To suggest he's better than some of the players Scotland has produced historically is crazy talk. Guys that have won European Cups, European POTY, English POTY's etc...

I'll be honest, I can't really talk about Murdoch as I never saw him play. I would be astonished if his passing ability exceeded McStay though. His range of passing was exceptional. I could be wrong though and would demur to the older guys who have experience of watching both.

Pretty much all the Lions and Stein himself have Murdoch as the best they’ve ever seen.
