Could have spent 4 million on Jerry St Just, like Feyenoord did and the boy is class.

Looks like the next VVD, just cause the premier league are paying daft prices doesn't mean there isn't quality out there.

Juve signed a 29 year old centre half world cup winner for 3.2 million and the likes of Johnny Evans would have gone for 30 million.

We don't need to always do our business down south, we could have signed plenty of centre halfs out there for 5 million who would have made us better.

It's not a question of having a level playing field but having higher aspirations than just being grateful to make it and then being cannon fodder for the likes of PSG. If our aim every season is to win our league and qualify for the Champs League we will inevitably stagnate and eventually move backwards. Brendan's ambition seems to be to progress beyond Christmas in Europe this season. That's fine but do the board genuinely share this ambition of continuous on field growth or are they quite happy with where we are, thank you very much?? Lawell has already stated he doesn't base our budget around Champs League qualification, will that ever change? it has to otherwise we will always be also rans. My feeling is the board let BR down with some signings, he'll tire of that quickly. Might do his four years but that will most def be it.

At the start of the window if you'd had told me we were going to; keep all our players, sign a class centre mid, get Paddy back!, Bring in the player of the 2015 under 17s European championships, and sign a highly rated young winger/attacking mid. I'd have bitten your hand off for it.

If 2 of those are on loan, 1 was meant to go into the youth team and between them you would be lucky if they had played 100 first team games then I'd be less happy.

Even if we got vvd that could happen to a team. Barca * psg after they * barca. Its just the way this level goes.

It will still result in alot of fingering pointing. That mentality is the same as the board...happy to just be there....we could get hammered with spending 20 million and hammered without spending a penny. The view they take is they'd rather keep the 20 million. We will forever be also rans and stagnate.

Expanding on that point. If for instance we budgeted on our squad going beyond Christmas in Europe every season, I can assure you we would have far less calamities in the qualifiers than we do. Because we budget on the 'happy to be there model' we run the risk of always being knocked out before the groups. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. Lawell and the board have set a glass ceiling for us and this is it.

Last season after coming back into the team Eric looked weak and ended up on the bench so the need to buy a central defender to challenge and cover injuries to Boyata and Simunovic was obvious. Eric possibly would have been sold this summer if we had cover so mow we go up against PSG without our strongest pairing at cb hopefully it won't cause us big problems.

What do you expect with £2m tv money? To challenge teams with 100m+? Thats not lawells ceiling thats scottish footballs ceiling. Until some tv conpany decide to pump cash in then thats as good as we can do. In fact we are doing remarkably well considering. Ofcoirse everycunt will blame the board that were no winning the champions league.

Fact is no * winning it bar the same top 4 teams every year. Getting 3rd would be our best bet of actually doing something.

No I don't but I do expect us to set our budget/aspirations to qualify 9/10. Beating teams on a similar level financially to us regularly, giving the bigger teams a run for their money and regularly going beyond Christmas. The budget we set cant do that, but it is def not beyond us and regular qualification raises coefficients, banks money and makes further progression even more likely. It all starts with setting our bar a bit higher as I say it's not beyond us currently to do that.

Edit: Also we see our league as financially pitiful (which it is) but the positives to that are we have a virtual monopoly on it and access to the potential riches of Champs League money every season. Clubs similar to us in Holland, Belgium are far from guaranteed to win their league in fact they regularly take it turn about. We are more attractive than your Scandinavian clubs as well. We should be seeing this monopoly as a positive and setting our budget for seasons much higher than 'happy to be there' and we will access the Champs League far more than we do which leads on to the performances stated above.

I think we need to calm down a bit. I totally agree they should've tried to get someone in for defence, but maybe they just couldn't get anyone in to improve the squad.

They probably should've at least got cover but they did try with Rivaldo - that situation was unfortunate.

Roberts, Ntcham and hopefully a replacement for Dembele - who is still here by the way. That's a great window. Let's look at the positives here before we tell the board to * off. It would've been easy for them not to pursue Paddy, sell Dembele and sign a Pukki and a * CB.

Its not inconceivable that before the qualifiers next summer we spend on bringing Paddy and this new striker in permanently, so maybe some cash has been kept with one eye on that.

Obviously disappointed to not have strengthened at CB. The Rivaldo deal is peculiar considering he seems to have immediately been snapped up by Orlando Pirates. Either we've been way too cautious with it, or we've been spooked by something and used that as an excuse. Either way, for a small fee of only £800k and from a league not contingent upon Champs League dates, why did we not move sooner, have the boy in BEFORE the qualifiers, at a time we could have really used him and at worst called the deal off a month ago, allowing more time to move onto the next target. From the reports it seems Denayer was our next choice but he'd been given permission to go to Gala by the time we made our approach. I get making moves closer to the window, but I'll say again, when the CB position was so thinly covered, and our 1st choice was relatively inexpensive, why leave it so flipping late.

Aye because one centre back at £3m is going to be the difference against one of the best teams in Europe and a team that just spend €400m on their strike force.

We could have spent £40m on the first 11 and Bayern and PSG could quite easily take 7 or 8 off us.

If we get 3rd spot this season but don't match that next season the board will be *, if we get to the last 16 but don't achieve that the following season the board will be *, If we make the last 8 and don't achieve that the following season the board are *, If we make the last 4 ...
Do you see where I'm going with this, the board will always be * for some on here. Are they perfect nope however in a choice between them running the club and those who are qualified purely because they play FM a lot I know who I will be backing.
Christ there are already some ramblings about Rodgers being a board puppet ffs.

    * putting in a new defender against psg 12 days after signing him. Wont know our system at all and will more than likely * up. Even if they score 6 we'll just score 7. * them all.

My thoughts on this window is that we are stronger at the end of the window than we were at the beginning yes we didn't get the CB we will just need to spat and manage, the greatest challenge will be PSG at home so hopefully a small counterbalance

Agree our squad is stronger when fully fit, but the pain point here is we are playing with a make shift defence which warrants bringing someone in, to go into important games with that defence is not worth the risk. No point moaning now though, it's done.

    Absolute pish.

If we got 3rd this season in the champions league and next season finished bottom who gives a * still money in the bank.

The rest of it regarding getting further is just utter *.

I for one don't think Rodgers is a puppet, but my fear is he could have his head turned very quickly if he is not backed.

Let's be totally honest here, we are crying out for a centre half and we never got one in, any * who says they are not disappointed that we didn't strengthen one of the weakest parts of the side knows * all about football.

We have depth all over the pitch bar the back and we have loads of games this season, all of our centre backs are injury prone and had good amount of time our with injuries.

We can't fire on all fronts with a make shift back line.

Some people are never happy I agree but the fact is Rodgers.should have been backed and a centre half should have been signed.

Unfortunately I wont know what you posted after "absolute pish" as that probably set the tone for a bit of a ramble and I have better more positive things to spend my time doing/reading.
