TRANSFER UPDATE: Celtic in 'advanced talks' over Roberts, and pushing for a permanent deal.

Celtic are said to be in advanced talks with Manchester City over the permanent transfer of Patrick Roberts. While another season-long loan deal seems the most likely option, the club are trying their best to secure their No 1 target on a permanent deal.

Various respectable sources, including 'Celtic Underground', Roberts' own agent, and others on KDS reported recently that a decision would be made over Roberts' future by Man City in the next '48-72 hours' (as of Tuesday). It has also become clear that Roberts is open to a return to Celtic, following little game time in pre-season with City.

As reported, Celtic are prepared to break their record transfer fee to sign the Englishman, however negotiations with Manchester City are heightening over a potential sell-on clause, with sources suggesting Manchester City want over 50% - and even 100% - of any future sell on profit, although Celtic aren't too keen on giving away all future money made on the player.

Celtic have a positive past of doing deals with Manchester City, with Peter Lawwell's son working in a senior position for the club, and the likes of Guidetti, Denayer, Boyata, Roberts and Ntcham joining the Hoops from City.

Other clubs, including Southampton, Nice and Stoke, could be willing to offer more money up front for Roberts, but Celtic's relationship with Manchester City, along with a potentially higher sell on clause, could be enough for Manchester City.

While the management have remained coy over the issue, Rodgers, Davies and Kennedy have consistently confirmed that there is 'constant dialogue' with Manchester City over Roberts - and insisted on the need to be patient. When asked if Celtic were in talks over Roberts, Rodgers insisted that "if there is, it's private".

But we need to be patient - if Celtic are to strike a permanent deal, it will take time - often what's in the small print matters a lot. Celtic ARE willing to splash the cash here, but will nevertheless want a good deal. Remember, negotiations over Olivier Ntcham took almost a week before being announced on 12th July.

It seems, at this stage, a loan would be the easiest option, but pushing for a permanent deal is all the more worthwhile. Come on Celtic, get him tied up! Seen this on fb very detailed

100% transfer profit? That's a dumb move by city. It would * over both parties considering we would just let his contract run up.

Roberts agent did say 48-72 hours to be fair so that should be tonight or tomorrow to hopefully conclude the situation.
