Is there anybody else out there * off with Strachan persistently sticking with a 4-4-2 shape against the huns when its glaringly obvious its not working. His * substitutions are straight swaps, he never gambles to change the shape ie take off Caldwell or Naylor and go with Skippy. When Martin O'Neill was getting the better of the Huns at first he played 3-5-2 then when McLeish started getting the better O'Neill switched to 4-4-2.

Its really * me off, its obvious we need to load the midfield against them * especially when they are only playing * 1 up front

Would like to see us try 3-5-2, but I just don't see WGS changing his style or selections.
Strachan seems reluctant to change tactics, I've felt a good few times that we should have played 3-5-2 especially away from home in the CL, even 4-5-1 might have been better today as for me, Davis & Thompson were far more influential than anyone in our midfield. McGeadty had a great 1st half and glided past Broadfoot with ease, totally baffeling that he didn't have more of a go at him in the 2nd half.

Why a 3-5-3 ? why 5-4-1? Whya nything other than 4-4-2? We created chances and didn't score we could create more or less chances with these formations but if we don't put them away we will not win games

IN the SPL we'll get away with 4-4-2 nine times out of ten, especially if you have a well drilled team who know exactly what they're doing. Unfortunately we don't, otherwise Strachan wouldn't have to spend half his time ranting like a banshee from the sidelines.

Playing a 3-5-2 in Europe and against the Huns and maybe a few others at home makes perfect sense but we're simply not good enough to make it work...due mainly to the fact Strachan's a stubborn wee *!

I'd support 3-5-2 anytime, but Strachan won't play it, to our dismay. I'd support anything offensive that isn't 4-4-2 with flat midfield.

You think 4-4-2 flat midfield can work against Rangers?? In your dreams, mate!

Anything but these things Strachan is using now...but the man is stubborn... And why not the ˝D˝-word?

    I would still go for a 4-4-2.

    My suggestion for a new formation next season;

    Boruc
Hinkel - new signing - McManus - new signing

    New signing
McGeady - Nakamura - new signing

    VoH / Samaras / McDonald - rotation.

Back ups; maybe a new keeper, O'Dea, Caddis, Sno, Hartley, Brown, Robson, Hutchinson, Koki, Naylor...

Guessed my thoughts. I like the 4-1-3-2 very much, and the new signings are needed exactly on those positions.

Yeah! Agathe, I loved his speed. The ultimate flank of earlier Celtic years.

back 3s and wingbacks were discredited years ago. MON dumped them after Seville. Rubbsih system if you are facing decent wingers.

Don't agree with this Keltoi. If you have a 2 good wing back's, they can nullify any opposing wingers, and put them on the back foot, as Agathe and Thomson often did. The problem with our current squad is, we don't have the players capable of playing this system.

Our central defenders, imo, could not operate as a back 3, and we don't have any wing back's.

I liked the 3-5-2, but only because we had a defence and midfield capable of playing the formation.

Ive been on suggesting 3 at back b4-most notably after shaktar away game!! and again when we had no full backs and lots of cen dfndrs....surely it would be better to play 3 Cen Dfenders in a back 3 doing marking jobs, rather than punt two of them out to full back position where they are unsure of the position.

The rigid 442 was always going to struggle aginst 5 man midfield - surely you adjust to suit oppostion? They played one man up front (like always) and we had four fkn dfenders in that area!!! yet expect 2 CM's to match 3 CM's.

I know a FB should then come in and help but if the FB switches off, or the opposition switch the play and keep the ball, then the midfielders are onto a chasing.

I have been saying for weeks that I wld have went against Rangers with Samaras and MacDonald (pace, trickery aggression-ball on deck!!) - Weir is creaking at the seams big time(milk turning etc etc)......not go with JVoH punt up the park which easy for Weir and Culellar!

The decision to leave Scotlands top scoroer on the bench in a must win game in absolutely staggering....beyond belief.

    Boruc

    Bobo Caldwell Mcmanus

    Hartley

    Hinkel Naka Brown Mcgeady

    Samaras MacDonald

    PS: where is John Kennedy?

He'll change the shape for the next game

    A 1-3-1-3-2 i reckon

with the sweeper and DMF pushing up at all times.

What annoys me though is he can't decide in games when its not working to change a shape. What do our players actually do on the training field???? Surely u work on different tactics etc, ok if 4-4-2 is our best shape then great but u need to be flexible and be able to change but we never change.

FMG, that looks good, but Hinkel is a genuine defender, I'd put someone else there(Mcgeady, then Robson to his place). And I'm ready to see McDonald go upfront the next game.
