Any old timer gamers getting this, I'd prefer a SNES mine, might get one when they are back in stock.
    Super Mario Bros. 3

Was the first console i had. Played a lot of my favourite games again years ago on an emulator. Probably best doing that and having all the games for free.

What's the difference between this and the SNES?

This is the older version, not as powerful as the Snes. I'm sure this is 8-bit and the Snes 16-bit.

Pointless waste of time. I have an actual NES with changeable games. That piece of * is restricted to the few games its got built in. I can't believe the amount of actual NES owners who have went out and bought the thing. Games are emulated as well.

Yeah, you can fit an entire NES ROMset in under 1GB of storage and Nintendo give you a poxy 30 games with that new system. And it's not like it's all great games like the 5 Mega Man games, 3 Castlevainas and 2 Duck Tales, there's loads a never play more than once pish like Mario Bros (the one before Super Mario Bros) Galaga and Donkey Kong.

Tecmo Bowl, * off and one Mega Man game (not even the best one). * you Nintendo.

They should have at least set it up so that the user could buy more games from an online store via the device.

Yeah, the no expansion is a bit pish especially when there are so many * games on it. Every Mario game I have for my Gameboy Advance has Mario Bros built into it as well and I never touch that game.

Anyone who owns a NES would be better off buying an Everdrive. At least with that you can put a full ROMset onto a micro SD card and play the games on their original hardware.

LOL, yeah. Anyone who pays money for an emulator is a * idiot and the NES mini is an emulator. Was just looking at them on Ebay. The ones at auction have been getting £100+ but there are loads of greedy arseholes selling them buy it now for £140+. One seller has it at £275 buy it now but that includes a Mario cushion.

At least with an emulator you can pick your games, the Mini only has 30 and plenty of those are shiters you'll never play more than once: Mario Bros (the boring 1 screen game from before Super Mario), Donkey Kong, Techmo Bowl and Pac Man. Pac Man is alright as a free download I can play on the train home but it''s not something I'd pay for. The entire NES ROMset is only about half a GB of space so they could have done a lot better. I only have 16 games for my NES but they are all great games that I often go back to. I have a Master System Everdrive that has a micro SD slot in it and on a 1GB micro SD card I have pretty much the whole Master System ROMset. I've been thinking about buying the Ever Drive for my NES. I have the whole NES ROMset for my Nester emulator but the Ever Drive lets me play the games on their original hardware and the NES Ever Drive costs about the same as the NES Mini.

I think the NES Mini is bought by the kind of people who like the idea of retro gaming but they end up firing it up, playing each game about once then get bored with it. I'm sure we've all done that at some point with those plug n play joysticks that have about 5 arcade games on them. The sort of people (people like me) who are fans of the original software and hardware will own the original console and games.

Totally agree, I remember buying the Sega Megadrive Ultimate Collection for the PS3, 20 plus games I think (maybe 30?) but after a quick play on them I wasn't interested as most I didn't even like in first place and the disc was never used again. I'm not a retro gamer myself, I dabbled in emulators a while back but decided it wasn't for me, I'd rather remember games like Chaos and Skool Daze (ZX Spectrum), Desert Strike (Megadrive) etc as great back in the day rather than moan at their limitations now.

For me * like the NES Mini is for hipsters trying to be "cool"

I've also got the Mega Drive collection for my PS3 but unlike the massively over priced NES Mini I paid something like £3 for that PS3 disc. It's a decent collection, 40 games and a mix of Master System and Mega Drive games. I think there's about 8 Master System games. There's also a few unlockable arcade games like Space Harrier and Fantasy Zone in there. Unfortunately that collection was limited to Sega only games so games like Desert Strike couldn't be on it. EA made some good games for the Mega Drive so it would have been nice if they could have had third party titles on it. The MD collection is good for if you have a few friends round because you can fire up the old two player games like Golden Axe and Streets of Rage.

One thing that's always frustrated me about Sega is that they make terrible pads. I have about 10 Mega Drive pads and trying to find 2 that work properly for a 2 or 3 player on Micro Machines is a nightmare. I have 3 Super Nintendoes and about 8 SNES pads and every one of them works fine. The 2 pads I have for my NES still work fine as well. Sega always made these horrible feeling squishy pads that were terrible for games like Street Fighter 2. These days there are USB pads for the PC in the design of the SNES pad being sold for a few quid, I've never seen similar in the design of the MD pad.

When it came to the free game with the console the Sega owners got the short straw. With the SNES you got one of the finest platform games ever made and with the MD you got a rather boring arcade conversion.

Golden Axe 2 is the best of the 3 Golden Axe games on the disc. 3 was a bit of a let down. It has the 3 Streets of Rage games. I'd never played 3 until I bought the collection for the PS3. I have 1 and 2 for my MD but 3 goes for silly money on Ebay these days. I've seen it sell for over £100. The reviews at the time said it wasn't any better than 2

Not really the MD was out 2 years before the SNES so I doubt playing a 16 bit console two years in advance was a short straw. To be honest I'm not a Mario fan, so I wouldn't have cared, the games in was jealous of that the SNES had and the MD didn't was Super Soccer and WWE Wrestlemania at the time

Sorry, I think I may have worded that badly. I never meant getting the Mega Drive was drawing the short straw. I loved my Mega Drive and still do. What I meant was that the game that came with a new Mega Drive was a bit of a let down. Altered Beast was a pretty boring game. I got my Master System in 1990 (original design, not that hideous Master System 2 that looks like a kids' toy) and it had Alex Kidd in Miracle World built in. That Alex Kidd game is one of the best platformers I've ever played and it kept me going for months. I remember completing it 4 months later in April. I don't think Altered Beast would have kept me entertained as long. I got my Mega Drive for Christmas in 1993 (got my SNES in 1992) but I got it second hand so it had some really good games with it. I had this great wee Hot Rod style from above driving game called Double Clutch, it was a great wee 2 player. I could never understand why Sega never gave Hot Rod a console release? It's one of their best driving games.

I remember the SNES being more of a gamers' console. Most people I knew who owned the MD back in the day weren't game addicts like me so they always seemed to have these massive collections of EA's * sports sims like NHLPA, NBA Jam, Madden Football and FIFA. When I got my MD I hunted out some proper games and ended up with a decent collection: Double Clutch, Strider, Gauntlet 4, Castle of Illusion, Mickey and Donald, Wonder Boy 5, Zero Wing. I sold my MD in 1996 but have got another since then and have about 25 games for it. When I got my second Mega Drive a mate of mine had somehow acquired a Master System converter that was brand new in the box. He gave me that for a tenner and I've built up a good wee Master System collection. Have about 30 Master System games.

You'll probably disagree with this, not many agree but personally I think that game for game the Master System is a better console than the Mega Drive.

LOL, giving you my life story here, sorry about the TL;DR.

Definitely disagree mate, wasn't the SNES the one with the lame Mortal Kombat without the gore? The SNES was terrible, not for its capabilities but because of Nintendo acting like a controlling parent, that's not a gamers console. EA used to half * port their Amiga games which were Megadrive ports to it which made the Megadrive versions far superior. The Master System was my first console, upgraded from a 128K Spectrum 2+ at the time, but it was limited
