The income stream from the Domestic league will always be a barrier to further development.

We are a elite teams but as border bhoy says about the money side of it ,its holding us back .Say at present there were a european league celtic would probaly be in the bottom half of the table as the way things are at present , but if the money came flooding in as it is the now with all the big so called leagues ,celtic would be challenging with the big guns

I agree with Kennydal, the other problem of course is that players capable of playing for clubs in a European League would have to be procured against competition from some of the bigest teams in the continent, therefore Glasgow would be up against Milan, Madrid, Paris etc not to mention London and Manchester in the UK, Clubs in the North of England have complained in the past that they sometimes struggle when trying to sign players in the teeth of competition from the big 2 in london.

Would we want Champions League every week anyway? It would make travel to away games very difficult for many, What would happen to the traditional 3pm Saturday KO (I would miss that)? And, the novalty atmosphere of nights like last night would surely wear off when we were constantly seeing these sides, week in , week out, however, none of these concerns help to create the additional income we need to move forward in the European game.

i think we are very close at the moment, we have good stadium, sponsors, growing brand and reputation over the last decade in europe, and i think we aren't too far off being an elite club. it wont be long until we get a decent champions league draw and get ourselves into the quarters. i know barca was disapointin but we are still goin in the rite direction.

We could even struggle to be in the top european league with competition from english teams. We could probably beat them but they have better, more expensive players. I think if we wanted to become an elite club we would need to spend more money on better elite players. In the two windows this season, correct me if i'm wrong, we spent about £15 million. If we wanted to become an elite club, I think we would need to spend this on one or two world class players that are young but are established in European football. E.g Alexandre Pato or Sergio Aguero. This would mean, if we give them long and large contracts they would stay for many seasons. After a few seasons we would have 6 or 7 of these players and then e would be considered to be an elite club. This would be better than spending £15 million on 6 players which we have done this season.

we'll never be an elite team (I make the distinction between elite club and elite team) whilst stuck in Scotland unless UEFA does something to redress the balance between the big three leagues and the rest, which is ruining European football. All we can do is keep plucking away and hope one year we have a freak Porto 04 moment.

Also we're signing players that dont start for teams that over a two leg stage, celtic fans would expect to beat. e.g Samaras - Man City, Hutchinson - Middlesbourgh, Hinkel - Sevilla

As i said look a Greece, and Denmark who won the Euro championships. Any team can win anything, just going to be so much harder for us until we get a huge cash injection.

No we're not mate. I think us celtic fans have to put our feet on the ground. There are teams such as Tottenham, Man City and possibly Portsmouth that have better players than us. If we go away from the Scottish League, we might not ever see us in Champions League action again.

the title should be changed to will we ever be an elite club AGAIN

also in 1967, a team brought together from a 30 mile radius of parkhead beat the odds and beat the italian giants inter milan in the final

    impossible is nothing

are we talking about a football team or tesco?

Celtic will struggle for many reasons.
money is one. thats jsut tough * imo. no use complaining about it. the money isnt in scottish football that you get in spain england etc.

i dont want celtic to leave the scottish league either for england/european super league or any other soul less nonsense.

the main reason barcelona hammered celtic the other night was because the celtic players cant even pass or hold onto the ball. thats what happens when you have 8/9/10 year old kids being taught how to win rather than play football. thats the * "british" system v the continental style.
but sure why do that hard work of teaching kids how to play proper football? just throw money at the problem. that will solve everything
