It can vary. Best shop around. Check out cash back sites like Quidco and topcashback because sometimes you can (eventually) get some money back.

If you have motor insurance, try the same company, most of the time you get a fairly good discount if you take both with the same insurer.

There's usually a clause in your mortgage which makes home insurance a necessity?

Yeah, mortgage lender won't lend unless you have building insurance. Contents is optional.

Where in Paisley did you buy the flat? I'm from Paisley and worked for many years in a taxi company so I know where all the junkies and bams are.

Did you go through a financial adviser when buying? We did all our insurance and stuff through them, probs ended up paying slightly more than we could have found through comparison sites but it was so much easier.

buildings insurance is a must, contents is optional but I would urge you to take it out. good advice as to ask your motor insurance for a quote but I use "go compare" for a cheap quote for a good policy. You should always slightly over insure to make sure you are fully covered. it is easy to underestimate the contents of your house and the cost of replacing them. I have contents insurance covering up to £50k which was a fiver more expensive than £30k plus it also included the contents of my garage i.e. garden tools, fishing rods, tools etc. you also have to take into account of fire, a small fire can smoke damage the entire contents of your house.

If its a flat check to make sure the buildings insurance is not included in your factors bill

Mortgage had went through. But my solicitor needs this to finalise his part also.
And you're right hammer that it is necessary but there's some legal bs that I need to sort out personally

And yes t2tm. Moved into forbes place (right at the art centre/canal). Really nice wee bit.

I got a mortgage about 2.5yr ago for a flat and my Building Insurance is tied in with the Factors fee so look into that first before getting a seperate one.

Contents Insurance is fairly cheap (if you want it) just depends how much value you want covered in case of any unforseen damages.

It's an obvious thing to do but aside from checking the best prices, thoroughly investigate what's covered. Some of the quotes are excellent for some of the smaller companies but if you read into it you find out why.
