You like Donati, I think that's fair to say. But the combination of Donati and Brown leaves us badly exposed through the middle because neither of them are either capable or willing to sit just in front of the back four.

Having Hartley screening the defence allowed Brown (or Donati if he played) and our widemen the freedom to do their stuff further forward.

The team looked as comfortable, shape wise, as it has since Lenny was at the height of his powers. It gives you the point to a triangle whenever passing out of defence or whenever you have to come back inside for an outball. Donati and Brown, for all the early season promise looks a bit disjointed as although Donati is comfortable sitting deeper he still has the tendency to go forward and leave holes.

Exactly. Can anyone conclusively tell me what position Donati is most comfortable in? Is he a defensive or attacking midfielder?

I think Hartley looks the best player for that particular job in midfield, and we have a busy schedule so everyone will get their chance including Donati.

caldwell gets all the flack but the worst player in the team was hinkel he was absolute mince in the first half but nobody slagged him off. give caldwell a break he is not the worst player by a mile i.e. voh donati.

Hate to rain on most folks Caldwell is */must go parade BUT his partner seems to go uncritisized.
Now am not saying for 1 minute that McManus is */must go am not. I have to say for my opinion that Mcmanus is hardly the commanding CB that we have been used to. He is not the attacker of headers as say Mjallby,he certainly does not possess fantastic passing ability as say Stubbs yet it's always Caldwell who takes the flak.
Is this because he is the Captain and the blue eyed(or should that be Green eyed!) boy? Remember the Huns game? McManus was ragdolled by Cousin before the nasty head injury. Tell me when you see a ball coming into the box and he makes it his ball?
So in retrospect, both are not great, but, are the best of what we have and it appears that our manager agrees.
    My tuppence worth.........

Yet Aberdeen still managed to drive through our midfield and create more chances than Killie did when Donati played?
Donati showed a few weeks ago against Killie at home with his MOTM performance that he is well able to track back and defend.

Donati is a deep lying playmaker,a poor man's Pirlo or Xabi Alonso. He has also shown he has the ability to get forward. Why do we need a holding midfielder and an attacking midfielder?Last year we were crying out for some dynamism in the centre of the park and this year we have it.Donati should start most games with Hartley coming in when the pitch is *.

I've just watched the game over again and midfield wise, it was the most solid we have looked in a while.

I don't know why Caldwell is taking so much stick (and I don't rate him) because, other than a couple of wayward headers, I thought he did ok.

The worst passer out of defence in our team is McManus by a mile. Watch the game again and see how many times he finds a Celtic player. Very few.

Hartley did a great job, and I agree him and Brown seem to be the best partnership. Although Hartley doesn't sit as deep as Lennon did, he covers the position as well as supplying a more forward option too. Great to have a player who offers that.

Dramatic change in the team in the past few weeks, and if it continues, there's only one team going to win the league.

I thought Hartley played well on Sunday but I think Donati would have played well too. For me the big difference is a proper right back. Although Hinkel wasn't at his best he plays the game far enough up the park to make the midfield guys jobs a helluva lot easier.

The forwards are comfortable because crosses are no longer hit in from the half way line, defenders are better because the midfield are now controlling the game because they are no longer outnumbered. Caldwell although he appears very sloppy at times is a better tackler than McManus in my opinion. For me the weakness in defence right now is Naylor. The discovery of another left back somewhere on the books would be fantastic.
