    Adam Virgo, Albion's versatile 22-year-old Player of the Year, is set to join Scottish giants Celtic in a shock £1.5 million move.

    Two weeks ago Albion chairman * Knight rejected an initial approach from Celtic for the popular defender-*-striker, setting a minimum figure of £1.5million to prise Virgo from his reluctant-to-sell hometown club.

    Celtic upped their bid a week later, but in further negotiations with Celtic chief-executive Peter Lawwell and manager Gordon Strachan, no agreement was reached.

    Last Wednesday, Celtic finally matched Brighton's asking-price in a written offer to the club, and Albion's Chairman finalised with Lawwell on Friday from his hotel in Cyprus, where he is currently on holiday.

    The £1.5million transfer is an all-cash deal, with no appearance or other performance-related conditions. The transfer is subject to the player agreeing personal terms with Celtic and passing a medical at his prospective new club.

    I saw him twice last season when Brighton played Coventry (the Hoops' feeder club!) and he is big, strong and quick. He was played up front last season and scored against us at Highfield Road, but apparently he can play in defence as well. A good player but a strange signing. Hopefully this may mean Telfer staying away, and that Nakamura will be the second signing of the week.

    I heard that bolton and everton were after him- was also readin a couple of brighton messageboards and they are gutted to see him go and they think that he has potential to be world class

    According to Mcghee and Brightons official website his best position is central defence but he can play right back or even upfront and scored a few towards the end of the season when played there.
    He`s young and versatile in the Sutton mode and may be an ideal replacement for Jackie, who when you look at the list of departed players, was the only regular bar Rab Douglas.
    I think the wee man knows exactly what he`s doing if given time and think he`s threw the press a couple of dodgy lines lately to amuse himself.
    So much for Keevins prediction on radio tonight that Celtic had no more money and the fans were in for a depressing season, 44 days to go till the transfer window closes...* you Hugh.

    Yeah just seen it on SSN and was shocked. In the current climate it's a lot of money, especially for someone with no experience at the top level ... is that all we can get?

    However like the rest of the nobody summer signings (remember Lubo who?), if they can do the biz then great plus at least Strachan is building for the future. But where are all the kewl signings we were promised??????????

    As i'm a season ticket holder with Brighton, Adam Virgo is a legend to me and all Brighton fans. I hope he does well with you. We will miss him at the Albion, but i know you will look after him and see him develop into a quality defender. And trust me you've have a quality player on your hands.
    And if you need a goal stick him up front he will score hat loads.

    Truthly I've never heard of Adam Virgo but if he does the job that's excellent. Does this mean GS won't be chasing after the Chinese guy Du Wei?

    I'm glad we're not signing premiership players. The most over-hyped over-priced market in the world. I haven't heard of the bloke (we were linked with Dan Harding from Brighton) but he seems to be getting good reviews, and he's the right sort of age.

    Adam Virgo was an excellent player for Brighton culminating in him being voted player of the season. He is an excellent central defender who will serve you well. Due to a shortage of forwards at the beginning of last season he was asked to play up front. An astute decision by McGhee. Was Brighton's top goal scorer. However one word of warning. If you get a free kick 25 yards out, he will either hit the back of the net with a bullet of a shot or the ball will end up in row Z.

    Very interesting to read the reports from the Brighton fans. Thanks for the info.
    Bit taken aback really at the suddenness of it all, but definitely an area of the side that needed strengthening. With all the strikers we have he certainly won't be playing up front.

    HE PLAYS WIF BRIGTON!!!!!!!!! FOR * SAKE THIS IS IT...OKI MABYE IF WE PAID £50,000 BUT Y SPEND 1.5M ON A GUY THAT DOESNT EVEN GET IN THE SCOTLAND SQUAD..ITS FFFFFFFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAAARRRRR TO MUCH MUNEY 2 WASTE.
