6.4"? A heard him say the height in the paper and i thought, thank christ, were getting a tall player for the back. I read on to find he was a winger, a don't think anyone has a clue who he is or what her like! O well, hopefully we'll be hoping that he done alot of work on this player and more when he was away on his sabatical.

Young centerback, plays for national team. He's currently plying his trade in the Chinese league.

Chinese defender interests Strachan

CELTIC have invited Chinese defender Du Wei to Parkhead with a view to making him Gordon Strachan’s fifth close-season signing.
The 6ft 4in centre-half would be signed as cover for Bobo Balde and Stan Varga – with the possibility of replacing one of them as a first-team regular – if he impresses Strachan.

Wei currently plays in the Chinese league for Shanghai and would cost around £800,000 if Celtic were to pursue their interest. He could become one of two Oriental imports at Celtic if the club can also successfully land Japanese international playmaker Shunsuke Nakamura.

Wei’s age – he is 23 – is a positive, given that he would help balance out the average age of the squad inherited by Strachan, which under Martin O’Neill had too few players in the mid-20s bracket. But the signing will depend on how well he looks in training and possibly Thursday’s Parkhead friendly against Sporting Lisbon.

It has not escaped Celtic’s directors that Wei and Nakamura would also give the club a foothold in the lucrative football merchandise market in the Far East.

 

I saw them v Ireland too but they didn't look too bad on that potato field of a pitch! Can't remeber the guy though as they all looked the same, but i will give him a chance like every new player. He could hardly be any worse than our current lot at centre half!

Celtic are thought to be considering a move for Chinese defender Du Wei.

Strachan has admitted he is looking at a mystery Chinese defender and Du Wei is believed to be the man in question.

Wei is currently playing for Shanghai Shenhua, but he is sure to jump at the chance to play in Europe.

Strachan is keen to bolster his defence having lost Jackie McNamara and Joos Valgaeren this summer.

Wei is believed to have been made available for transfer by Shenhua and Strachan is weighing up a move for the central defender as he aims for two more signings.

"I hope to have two more players in by the end of the week," Strachan said after Saturday's draw with Fulham.
