If Bobo completes his move to bolton, will the £1 million plus his wages be put towards a quality long-term solution to our problems at CB?

I believe it would be criminal not to replace him with a commanding, ball-playing centre-half and its not as if we'll have a kenny miller situation on our hands with no time to replace him in the window.

Any suggestion for his replacement with the big man's celtic days looking numbered?

ideally i would like heitinga of ajax but he would cost 3-4m pounds hes only 24 and would have good sell on value if we were to let him go.alternative would be jaliens of az alkmaar, hes also an international but is about 29 hes solid and has lots of pace, maybe get him for about 1.5-2.5m pounds.if we want qaulity we need to pay for it.

Thomas Ujfalusi fliorentina Chech republic stalwart out of contract in the summer and available for 500-k now.

Daniel Van Buyten not wanted at Bayern Munich and available for 2-3 mil.

Also I agree with Tim if Heitinga was available for 3-4 mil that would be ideal if we could aford him.

Am not totally convinced Bobo will be sold this window. Am no sure it's just biased because i want him to stay, but at the minute i have a hunch that Strachan wil try and keep him at least till the end of the season. I'd love to see us sign a big powerful defender in the summer tho, someone was saying in another thread we should be looking to Serie A or Scandanavia, i think that's absolutely spot on. Imagine stumbling over another Mjallby, someone of that ilk is exactly what we (and Big Mick) need.

Spot on m8. And I am sure there is someone out there waiting to be scouted and given a chance, another Mjalby is exactly what we need.

Wes Brown. Looking to get out of Manchester. Good, solid defender with great European pedigree. No language barrier which would allow him to slot in next to McManus perfectly. He'd get stuck right in about the Hun as well. With Balde's wages being freed up and Graveson set to leave I would love the board to really go big on this one. Him and Mick could form the best defensive partnership we've had in years.

A powerhouse is what is needed. Good strong, no prisoners defender who can come out and pass a ball. There is nobody currently involved who fits that description.

What makes you think this? I've never seen him play with any real passion for United, and he'd have no political/religious/local rivalry going on (sorry to bring these things up) to encourage him. He looks out of his depth at United, but then again we don't have anyone as good as Rio or Vidic at Celtic. Brown can play Right-Back too.

sorry to disappoint you guys but think some of you are forgetting who our manager is. he doesnt have a clue about defenders, he thinks Gary Caldwell is a star. we wont sign a new centre half, we'v been crying out for a dominating centre half since he arrived and he still hasn't signed one, he wouldn't even play the only one he had.

There will be no replacement. Caldwell will be back at centre half and this will be the desicion that costs us the league and Strachan his job

Full of confidence as per eh? The defenders he's chosen so far have won the league twice and got through to the last 16 of the Champions League, not bad for a guy with no clue.

Caldwell McManus at the back will do fine for me, they both played extremely well at the start of the season until Gary was shunted out of position. He's made no howlers this season at all at centre half yet he's still being slaughtered.

anyway not to say anything against balde as i think he should have been in the team but the thread is on about replacing him. do we really need to replace someone who plays in the reserves and hardly gets an oppetunity?

It's true you can't really fault Caldwell for his performances at the start of this season at CB, he played well. Doesn't mean he's not prone to some howlers though. I think Bobo should be in before him every time but unfortunately it looks like he's off so you can put money on Strachan going for a Caldwell McManus.

To say that decision is going to cost us the league and Strachan his job is just madness though. I don't like Caldwell either but you've got to remember everyone can step up and become a better player.

Tbh Bobo has made as many howlers as Caldwell if not more, i agree with Hammer aswell he hit the nail on the head :icon_mrgreen: although dont get me wrong a qaulity addition like Wes Brown would be great, but Caldwell and McManus is satisfactory for me.

    Boom Boom :87:

Bobo has made some crackers in his time, but his tackling, presence, ariel ability, no nonsense approach and intimidation factor make up for it. Caldwell unfortunately is nowhere near as good a defender as Bobo in that respect.

Caldwell is an absolute dud and for people to say they are satisfied with him back at centre half, might i remind you 34 games away from home without a clean sheet, shipping goals all over the place.

with Bobo gone our defence is now weak and fragile and is a defence that those 6 foot bruisers from across the city will be coming in their pants at the prospect of facing. Cousin and MCulloch will quite simply batter * out of that * Caldwell and will beat us again and again.

Strachan has no clue how to play against Smith's huns, 3 games, 3 defeats, 6 goals lost, 0 scored, very, very few shots in goal and soundly beaten each time.

When are you people gonna wake up and see this. quite simply if we cannot beat them, we cannot win the league, and as i have said it will cost him his job because quite simply there are just far too many fans who dont rate him and will make themself heard so much that he will not be able to stay on especially after losing the league to a * huns team

So suddenly our previous performances guarantee that we're goanny get pumped again this time round? You should know by now that form counts for * all on Old Firm day.

As i say am not happy with Caldwell in there but you must admit that saying if we play him against the huns we will lose the league is absolute bullshit. We all know your one of (if not the) most negative people on this board but don't you ever get bored of it?
