I think the 8-hour work day is not as effective as one would think,’ Linus Feldt, CEO of Stockholm app developer Filimundus, told Fast Company.

‘To stay focused on a specific work task for 8 hours is a huge challenge. In order to cope, we mix in things and pauses to make the work day more endurable. At the same time, we are having it hard to manage our private life outside of work.’
The logic goes that if the working day is shorter, staff will be more motivated and have more energy to complete the same volume of work in less time. On top of higher productivity, Feldt says staff conflicts have plummeted simply because employees are happier and better-rested.

Like the whole idea of doing what you are actually paid to do, to many at ours treat the place like a social club, chatting inane * about what they are having for tea and what they watched on telly, *.

I think six hours if you hit a certain target of work. 7.5 if you don't. You would see some amount of effort in that six hours! I know I would pan my * in to make sure I got away early. There would be no arguments staying late if i didnt either. Fair?

Brilliant idea, as lets be honest, 6 hours is probably what the 'average' worker will do in a 8 hour day anyway.
Just hope no-one moans when they get paid for 6 hours as opposed to 8 hours every day :icon_mrgreen:

I'll wait until Daibhi has posted his contradictory opinion before I agree it is a good idea.

    Good luck to them.

The stumbling block is businesses would go tonto if the state tried to regulate the labour market, especially when they've tried so hard to unfetter it.

Crazy to think as well that the labour movement were fighting for this and retirement at 50 back in the 80s.

Maybe your employer should look to employ some of the immigrants/Refugees and then they would get a proper days work out of them .. :86:

In my work you can literally do * all one day to the point of insane boredom and then be flat out the next, and the work comes when it comes so you can't control it. So I doubt it would make a difference to me. I do get more sluggish in the afternoon though

Your pay stays the same, you just become more efficient.

What about the rest of it,are you then classed as part time and lose benefits as you do less than 40 hours a week.

What do we want = shorter hours
when do we want it = now
will we take a pay cut = * no.

    Hmm I see a flaw :smiley-laughing002:

Sounds like a good idea in theory.

I take it you would only be entitled to 30 minutes of breaks in this case ?

Would be good to see how it would work out as a trial period. Anybody that's worked 10+ hours in a day will tell you, the last few hours are torture. There would definitely be benefits to it, both mentally and physically. Although it just wouldn't work with a large percentage of jobs.
