Celtic hope to confirm Manchester United youngster Saidy Janko as their second capture of the summer transfer window in the next 48 hours.
Sportsmail understands the Switzerland Under 19 international is travelling back to Glasgow for further talks aimed at finalising a permanent switch.
Celtic have been working on an agreement over the past two weeks and, barring any late hitches, Janko is expected to join Dedryck Boyata in strengthening Ronny Deila’s options ahead of the Champions League qualifiers.

Manchester United full back Saidy Janko looks set to join Scottish champions Celtic on a permanent deal

Janko spent the second half of last season on loan at Championship outfit Bolton Wanderers

Although primarily a right back, he can also operate in a more advanced role. His arrival could place a question mark over Adam Matthews’ future, with a number of English clubs keen on the Welsh international.
Celtic are still trying to push through moves for a new striker despite suffering setbacks in pursuit of Nadir Ciftci and Jelle Vossen.
No 2 John Collins confirmed that Ciftci is admired at the club after it emerged Dundee United had rejected a £900,000 offer from Celtic last week.

Sportsmail reported that Middlesbrough are leading the chase for the Turk - who is facing an SFA biting charge - as they weigh up a £1million-plus bid.
Celtic are pondering whether to up their offer but Dundee United are reluctant to sell to them after a fan backlash followed the double deal for Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong.
Belgian forward Vossen entered talks with Burnley over a potential £2m switch from Genk. That could deepen Boro’s desire to land Ciftci as they had considered an attempt to bring back Vossen following a loan spell last term.

Janko is expected to join former Manchester City defender Dedryck Boyata (centre) at Celtic Park

Ciftci is entering the final 12 months of his Tannadice contract and won’t sign an extension.
‘I believe there is an approach, but that’s all I’ve heard,’ said Collins. ‘He’ s a big striker, he’s strong and has technique. We like him. We’re looking to strengthen the squad.’
Collins was optimistic Kris Commons will be fit for the opening Champions League qualifier after suffering a minor fracture when a wardrobe door fell on his toe at home.
Hoping the 31-year-old returns to training in good time ahead of Stjarnan’s visit a fortnight, he said: ‘Kris is getting better every day.’

Celtic manager Ronny Deila wants to bring Dundee United forward Nadir Ciftci to the club

how did his time at bolton go.dont no much apart from he scored a 25 yard screamer.but looks to have only played ten games.

Yes for fucksake I thought he had left :smiley-laughing002:

  9. Looks a good promising young signing. Will no doubt add bags of pace to the squad also. Great signing if true

  10. We need a LB, a Striker, a Central Back, and a back up Goalkeer: we buy a right back.
Deila said he want to reduce the squad: he bought a new player, that seems surplus, also if he can be a very good young player. (He has no experience of European football, while Matthews/Lustig have)
He said he would use more youngster from the academy: buying a Man.U. youngster does not seem to me to help our own youngster gaining first team action.
    Just strange

Reminds me of Valencia, fast, strong and takes on the full backs and looks to be a proper winger which I assume is where he would be played.

We bought Boyata and if we sell Virgil will no doubt get another in and have Fasan as back up, Lustig can also play CB. Janko can play as a winger as well which is what he would be used as since Armstrong isn't really a winger. Also Matthews and Lustig are constantly injured.

I wish people would stop assuming this guy is going to play at RB and getting their knickers in a twist.

Deila wouldn't target him for the sake of it, there is obviously reason behind it. Whether it's Matthews leaving, going to LB to rotate with Izzy or whatever. He didn't just think * it lets bloat the squad with another RB.

Just because we are covered there doesn't mean we cannot improve there either. By the sounds of it this guy has some serious potential.

  14. And just to complete it: he plays only 45 minutes for Man.United (and he was part of a defence that took 4 goals from an MK Dons!! :poster_oo
If United let him go so easily, maybe there's a reason...
He can play as a winger. Ok, but we already have: Armstrong, Mackay-S., Forrest, Commons, McGregor; we have also used Stokes wide! We really need a winger?
For me it's completely nonsense. We need Left Back, Striker, Central Back and Goalkeeper...so please stop spending money on what we don't need!

  15. considering he was only on the pitch for one of the goals being conceded, thats not really a fair point

  16. And about our youngsters? Are you going to tell me that Fisher is not good enough as RB to cover Lustig and Matthews (at least in domestic football)? Than why is he still at Celtic? Are you going to tell me that our academy is not up to the level?
If we want we have good youngsters, than if we are just going to spend money, well that's all another story! :shamrock:

    Get a grip mate, honestly.

He is 19 year old and you are saying we shouldn't sign him because of that..laughable.

Commons, Armstrong and McGregor aren't wingers either, not to mention McGregor is distinctly average. Like I said before just because we might appear to be covered in certain areas doesn't mean we cannot improve.

We already have 3 strikers so by your logic we shouldn't sign another either..

  18. It's a better point the fact he didn't feature in any other United game? or that he play just 14 games at Bolton? I think there are better player to spend money for, and lot of youngsters in our academy that deserve a chance to play first team football instead of looking from the bench players that other teams just don't want! This is my point of view, I don't pretend anybody to agree with

  19. Why are you so against this signing? We have two constantly injured RB's and this guy can also be played further forward. We only have two wingers at present, Forrest and GMS. McGregor is hopeless, and Stokes and Commons aren't wingers. I wouldn't be surprised if Stokes leaves anyway.

This could be a good young signing
