Nastasic and Savic are in a different league than Ambrose, figuratively and literally.

    Aw right, cool.

Just had a quick glance and it looks like crackpots debating centre backs from other clubs - tall white guys - in a transfer thread about us going for a lad from Club Brugge.

    Seems a bit......well....crazy.

I kind of agree... but what counts is how a player performs for celtic. And there have been a few odd ones in the past few years: derk, pukki, heck even bangura has been scoring and performing anywhere else he has played.

I think most fans would have been pleased to sign finnbo last season for 5Mil, would he have been worth it? who knows.

So although I rate Mechele, I don't know if 3 Mil might be too much, but I think it's worth the gamble...

Would be a good signing for us. Up there with signing big Joos back in the day? Who knows.

Happy if we are making these kind of signings now. Shows a small step up from signing the unknowns and hoping for the best. Now aiming for known players in known leagues within our realistic budget.

    Perhaps, if this goes ahead.
Would be happy with this and another project, combined with a loan player of the denayer idea. Thats 3 cbs, with vvd, Ambrose and denayer out (8-10mill!?) bringing in three worth half that. Making a profit without too much of a risk.

Mukgrew and Wilson(if we do) would be a confident 5cbs.

Every bit if this post is pie in the sky

The 22-year-old is on the radar of the Scottish champions as they look to bolster their central defensive options.

Manager Ronny Deila is seeking backline provisions with Jason Denayer returning to Manchester City in the summer after his loan spell.

And with Virgil van Dijk also set to attract more summer interest from south of the border, Celtic are scouring the globe for potential recruits.

The Belgian Under-21 international is a possibility with Mechele’s agent Guy Bonny last night insisting to Record Sport that they are interested.

However, with two years remaining on his current deal, Celtic would need to find a hefty transfer fee to make any deal happen with Brugge also intimating to their player’s advisor that they would prefer to keep him in his homeland for at least one more year. Bonny said: “There is an enquiry from Celtic about Mechele.

“The only thing is that Brugge do not want to talk about a transfer right now.

“They would like the boy to stay with them for another year.

“They have been involved in European matches and are also in the middle of fighting for a championship. I must let it drift for a couple of weeks.

“He has a contract for a couple of more years at Brugge but you know how it is in football.

“Nowadays, any player can be transferred for the right money.

“At this moment, we have to wait and see what can happen.

“But we are very respectful of interest from Celtic.”"

If he is as talented as he seems to be then it would be quite a coup. Plenty of bigger clubs will be searching the Belgian market for talent.

We must go in very early for him.

Might lure Denayer back having a fellow Belgian alongside him.

Don't like agents confirming interest at this stage of the season, we can't sign him yet, smacks of drumming up interest in him.

I watched him last night. Didn't seem to be as dominant in the air as I'd expect him to be. Likes to pressure the attacker, any time the striker recieved the ball with his back to goal he was on him like stink on a monkey. Made a few good saving tackles in the box and seems to sense danger well. Doesn't seem the quickest, but it's hard to judge Had one Efe moment where he stopped the ball dead on the bye line and confused his keeper, nearly gifted it to the striker. Seems positionally sound though.

Think he's just about handsome enough, but his lower lip does hang open making him look a bit dopey

This exactly . We need to be looking at players in these markets that are proven performers for these clubs . 3-4 million is a fair ask to replace a guy we will likely sell for 10 or 11. Good business as i would imagine the 3-4 million player will be sold three years down the line for another big sum ( as i believe we have now established to the EPL that our best players will be alowed to leave for 10million pound plus ).

    Mate from Belgian said:-

    Hi,

I think he's a promising player. Currently you guys have Jason Denayer. I have a feeling Denayer is better than Mechele as a pure defender. I think Mechele is more of a ball palying defender.

I think the Scottish competition isa litle bit like the Jupiler League. He should be ok. Don't know if he will go to Celtic, he might well stay at Brugge..

    Take care.

I think their weak teams are as poor as ours but they have more big teams like Genk, Brugge, Anderlecht and Standard.

I wasnt overly impressed by him last night but obviously not going to base my opinion on him.

I think with the price tag that this is a replacement for Van Dijk. specially if he is a ball playing centre back.
