Icardi is one of these strikers who can do nothing all match and then kill you in an instant. Hope he's injured

Jonathan hasn't played all season, I don't know how you can say he's improved? Maybe you're mistaken him with Dodo? Anyhow, he's played his last match for Inter, as he's out for 4 months after a surgery and his contract expires in the summer.
Nagatomo is (in my opinion) our best full back when in form, and he's out for a couple of months as well.
D'Ambrosio, who's been our best full back, especially in Europe, will probably be back for the return leg, same with Vidic.

Icardi staying home today was a small stomach problem, there's no way he'll not play in Scotland.
Haven't heard anything about Ranocchia having any sort of trouble or injury problems, so that I don't know.

I'm excited for this game. We have to press and pester them for 90 minutes and I think we can get a good result.

After being in Germany / Dortmund this weekend and getting involved in the atmosphere here, I've decided that I'm just go to mental for this one. If people give me weird looks for singing then tough, it's happening :smiley-laughing002:

I put Ranocchia's name into Twitter and he seems to be getting a bit of stick from Inter fans..whats the consensus on him?

got a funny feeling the gaffers gonna start with guidetti on thursday. im undecided who id prefer to start up front but if guidetti gets the nod griffiths will be a handy player to bring off the bench 2-0 the bhoys van dijk and johansen

He was quoted yesterday saying the starting 11 on Thursday was unlikely to be the same as on Saturday. I still think Stokes will start along with one of the new bhoys.

    A liability, simple as.

Not worthy of a starting spot, never mind the captiancy.

Slow, lumbering, error-prone, not very good in the air despite being a hundred feet tall. The weak link if I had to point one out.
It hurts my heart to see him wear the band for my club.

About Ranocchia or the team in general (I promised you guys a write-up before the Napoli game, which I promptly forgot all about - I'll have it done tomorrow).

Regarding Andrea, he's just not a very good player. Certainly not good enough to be an undisputed starter for Inter Milan. Going from Walter Samuel (or Javier Zanetti, regarding the captain's armband) to Ranocchia, is like driving a Lamborghini and then crashing that and being crippled for the rest of your life. Or something like that.
Maybe going from Rangers to Sevco is a rather more apt comparison :56:

He can have good games, where nothing goes past him, and certainly has better positioning than Jesus (who more than makes of for his 'tactical' shortcomings in other areas), but you never get the feeling that we're secure when he's playing. And whenever he's had a good game or two, it'll always be negated when he makes a major mistake the next game and costs us points.

Just look at that *. For those wondering, that's Ranocchia costing us a semi-final place in the Coppa on the basis on being as agile as an elephant and having a topspeed of a lawnmover. It's just such a rookie mistake - first of, not having the awareness to follow your man, and then failing to do anything about a rolling, harmless ball, whether clearing or getting it under control.

Atalanta's goal today. Keep in mind, Pinilla, who beats Ranocchia to the header which leads to Morales' goal, is a mere 10 cm. shorter than him, and he beats him to the ball like it's nobody's business - if we can't rely on him to win aerial duels, and he doesn't make up for it by being average in anything else, then why start him? That was a rhetoric question, as the answer is clear enough; he's italian, and was made captain under Mazzarri, and dropping him wouldn't do wonders for the dressing room mood I'd assume.

I just don't like the guy, and we'd be better of with playing Andreolli (who has been a reserve all his life, but is rock solid when given the chance) or Vidic (who, short of murdering every single one of his teammates, couldn't have had a worse start to his time at Inter, but he's been good the last couple of games he's played). That says alot about how much I rate Ranocchia.

Dying to see how we actually set up on Thursday - whether we'll sit off and be cautious and just try to stay in the tie, or attempt to play the way we have been, pressing from the top and in numbers and trying to dominate possession.

It's a whole different ball game playing that way against a team like Inter, even if they aren't the inter of old and I can't help but have flashbacks of The Juve and AC games in recent years where we actually played good attacking football and had a real go but were eventually picked off, remember being baffled at how we ended up losing those home games 0-3 each time.
