It's prime was around 2009/10 for me I don't use it as much anymore, twitter is the way forward.

Facebook for me, is just full of all the junkie * from school who no * liked posting status' that no-one likes, sharing videos of dancing indian men that no-one likes and sharing their * life stories...which no-one likes.

In saying that I still have to go on it everyday, even for a few minutes. Force of habit by now though.

I deleted my account permanently about three or four years ago, mainly because of all the pointless posts ("at the gym", "look what I'm having for dinner", etc.) and my spending too much time mindlessly scrolling through my home page. I also figured there wasn't anyone I had on there that I couldn't contact if I wanted to, and wasn't overly happy about their privacy issues.

While I don't regret deleting it per se, not having a profile has had its disadvantages. Due to the fact that pretty much everyone had it at the time, events and nights out were always organised on Facebook, which meant I missed out on a lot of things because people assumed that I had a profile and had seen the message/update. I was constantly out of the loop too, since I wasn't privy to the latest gossip and all that. It also meant that I lost touch with a lot of people - I'm not in contact with any of the ones I went to Uni with because we all live far apart, and the same goes for mates who have moved away.

Also, because everyone adds everyone they've ever met as a friend, it means that you have a wider circle of people to converse with. I'm only 26, but my once large social circle has dwindled to a few close mates who I keep in regular contact with, and acquaintances I see at the pub or five-a-sides. When I had Facebook, I could easily communicate with any of the couple of hundred friends I had on there using the chat feature. I even pulled a few times because we were both sitting at home doing nothing and got talking on the chat. Now there's some weeks where I don't talk to anyone outside of work/immediate family until the weekend, and that scares the * out of me because it's only gonna get worse as I get on in years.

I've considered creating a new account a number of times, but ultimately don't want to go crawling back to it. Also, like I mentioned, I really dislike Facebook as a company. If everyone starts moving on to something new, I'd imagine I'll go along with the flow.

You all must know a lot of annoying people to hate facebook so much.

I don't mind it. Keep in touch with a lot of old friends through it and have met people from school for a few drinks. Something that wouldn't of happened without it. It's good to see what family members are upto as well that live elsewhere or you might not see often.

My Dad also got a message last year from his daughter who he hadn't seen in 30 years, so facebook isn't all bad.

If you don't like it's easy to deactivate or just unfollow the people who are posting *.

Give it a go what's the worst that could happen.

I find Facebook full of selfish feckers more interested in advertising the good bits of their life rather than engaging in any two way conversation. Some of it inane. But I am on it. I am a hypocrite perhaps.

    Exactly.

I'm not quite sure if everyone who's moaning like * about the pictures of dinners, babies, dogs, cats and general bullshit they read on their Facebook understands that it is all as a result of their quality of friends! :smiley-laughing002:

It has * all to do with Facebook! Blaming the website for that is a bit like blaming the quality of your plate when you have a * dinner!

Of course it is, but it's certainly a facility that makes it easier.

It depends what age you are.

In and around my age group everyone that still uses it regularly are 99.9% of the time....junkies.

People's terrible spelling on it really annoy me:

    "Just past my English exam".

"Here's ma wee daughter in her fairy princess costume, isn't she gorjis".

I'd expect someone like my wee niece to spell gorgeous as gorjis because she's 7. Seeing it spelled like that by a grown woman is annoying.

I hate people who use text abbreviations too. Unless you are still using a 3310 there's no excuse for using text speech anymore.

    Only when I need a *

This article lists several reasons why I'd love to delete my account ......but then you realise how easily out the loop you will be + it cuts the cord with services like Spotify and you realise its not so simple.

But forgoing social media and even email is not impossible. I don't know at 28 I just feel like I need a clean break after all the random opinionated * I posted on there when I was young and its particularly neccesary as I will be training to be a teacher soon. Common sense tells you that you can't allow yourself to be found on facebook by students. Most teachers change their name. I'd rather take and keep actual physical photos, have some stuff that I've done in my life (holidays/relationships etc) that only I know about + read a lot more books. Forums are ok, they are less invasive. But social media? Hmmmmmmm. Twitter seems alright. The rest? Mehhhh

This is the road I'd like to go down.

I love people phoning and actually speaking to me.

    Its way way better.
