Exactly. Our league isn't what defines us. Look at Basel as another prime example of a top drawer football team from a below-par league.

And to a lesser extent, Benfica and Porto as two of the biggest clubs in Europe, playing in a very weak league overall.

I didn't say that Scandinavian leagues are better. But it's more even and it makes it more exciting.

Maybe Bangura and Berget have better teammates in Sweden

It's just two games that matters. Bring it on :50:

Salzburg..Dinamo Zagreb could also be used as examples. Not top drawer sides but capable of holding their own regardless.

Pish poor leagues apart from one or two other half decent sides who on their day could cause an upset. Just like Aberdeen in ours, I suppose.

Couple of difficult games coming up, I'm sure we will dispose of them though.

Another few games to get up to speed before they come around.

Hopefully they will underestimate us considering how bad we were this time last year.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and claim the Swedish league is on par or better than the Scottish one, but none of the Swedish teams are on level with Celtic. Their problem (looking at the previous winners of their league) have been that they don't have a team consistently winning in their league (in between 2005 and 2014, eight (!) different teams won the league), which means none of their teams has had good opportunities to reach the Champions League (and at length, $$$). That is, until Malmo managed to qualify last year.

Unlike us, no team has been dominating the scene, and as such, their top team has never been on a particularly high level. Regardless, the average quality of the teams in Allsvenskan ought to be better than ours. I've tried looking at the CL and EL history (on wiki), and the last outing I found between a Swedish team and a Scottish team that wasn't Celtic or deadco was Malmo vs. Hibs in 2013/14, Malmo winning 9 * 0 on aggregate.

    That says a lot.

It's the way it is. Not alot we can do about it.

As the saying goes you can only beat what is infront of you.

    Tough draw.

They beat Salzburg 3-0 but going by the stats (In both games) they were dominated but just took their chances, which is what counts. They sit 6th in their league as well which isn't great and also have their best player suspended for the first leg at CP.

Welcome to all the Malmo fans and may the best team win.:50:

Oh I still got a user since the Malmö Rangers game 2011 ;) Funny to read all the battles here at that time :) Celtic is a classic club! But im Swede, and Malmo fan ;)

I think this will be a 50/50 tie. If Celtic arent 2 goal ahead after first game I would say Celtic could struggle.

Malmö has 8-0 at home last 3, play off champinons league/ 3rd round qualifying matches (1x Sparta sprag / 2x salzburg). I think Celtic are similar level, not at salz last year, but anyhow. Or?

Malmö has a clean sheet last 9 (?) last games in euro qualifying matches (champ league and euro league) at home! Last time they faced a goal behind at home was Rangers back 2011, Malmo still went through since they got 1-1 home but Rangers lost 2-1 at aggregate.

They have faced known teams like Swansea, Dinamo Zageb, Salzburg, Glasgow Rangers (if someone recognize Raagers here nowadays) ;)
We´ll see who wins... u struggled a lot against maribor and legia...quarabag :) Doesn´t look too scary to me. Legia was a better team though! :)

Celtic would walk the Norwegian, Swedish and Danish leagues. Yes, Rosenborg and FC København would have put up a good fight, but the rest over a full season would be brushed aside.

Now of course we all know it does not work like this. Malmø will be a tough test, but I'll be seriously surprised if Celtic does not beat them.

    Spot on :50:

The problem for Swedish team is that we don't have any money. So each year the winning team loose to much players and will struggle with both domestic and European games.

But Malmö can change this if we win ;) Then we can dominate the Swedish league like we din in the 70' s and 80's with 10 league victories and final in the European Champions Cup.

    So don't stop us :47:

The likes of Elfsborg, Helsingborgs, AIK, Gothenburg are going to be better than your average SPL *, aye.

The league in general is still of a poor quality though so they can't really look down upon ours. These sides also struggle in Europe as well much like our diddies.

As for Hibs getting gubbed it's...well it's Hibs.

All that matters is how good we are though. As I said.

Thanks. Away against Red Bull they got a doubtful penalty and a couple minutes later we was denied one obvious. So 2-1 would been a more fair result.

Yes they had a lot of shots on goal but that's not strange since Malmö backed home and defended their lead and we played with one man less for 25 minutes. But Dead Bull didn't have a chance :smiley-laughing002:

All the Malmo boys on here seem like good guys. Compared with some of the moronic fans of other teams we've had on here they are an absolute credit to their club. Have always had a soft spot for Malmo, partially due to Ibra and partially due to them beasting the Huns.

Hope you make it to the champions league next year and if we knock you out I'll be cheering you on in the Europa league.
